is damping better in doors for speakers? and deaden in boot for subs?
damping= that material stuff that is soft and absorbs sound
deaden= that metal like stuff suppose to reflect sound?
which stuff has everyone used?
was at jaycar the other day and they had rubber coated in barium, and this metal stuff, and cloth stuff and this dacron wool like thing
not sure which one is the go...... and what do u use to put in place?

Hmm I didn't think deadening ment it was made out of metal, but I don't know much about sound deadening...
Check out Car Audio Australia, they have heaps of info about it and even guides on how to install the stuff. I got this article about two different deadners.

I think you're mistaken with your definitions, they're one in the same.
You can't deaden a sound by reflecting it, It will just absorb the treble...but the volume is still the same tho it may not sound as though.

No it's bitumen, it's basically like flashtac. It just has a silver lining on the side. I have some sound deading mats in my garage, gotta get around to putting them in my doors.
If you want to put up with the smell for a while you can get Ormonoid bitumen paint (brushable type) 4l can will set you back about 25 bucks.
It's not a effective as the mats but it's a shitload cheaper. You will have to do a few coats to get a decent 3mm layer of it on there tho.

There a company down here in Melb. which supplies Mits/Holden/Ford, etc. with the sound deadening they use under the carpets, in the pillars, etc. (the green/greyish stuff). It's very effective too. Just another option...
