I have just managed to find myself some KL GTVi leather sets for the TL and i was wanting some advice from people as in what to do to get some suppleness back into the leather.
I cleaned them on the weekend using a mild detergent and then applied Maguires leather cleaner and conditioner. They are much better than before i touched them but i want to get some softness into the hides. My guess is that they have never been looked after in the car i got them out of so they will no doubt need a lot of work to get them feeling right...
So does anyone have any tips or advice on what would work best?

When i got my KJ i dont think the seats had every been cleaned. I got some leather moisturiser (came in an aerosol can from repco for about $40 iirc). The instructions said to spray it on, wipe it over, leave for a few secs, then wipe off. I found that the seats were actually absorbing most of the stuff before i could wipe it all off. i used the whole can over about a week of use and the seats did get better, but they were never like new.

No offense, but KJ seats aren't leather, they're vinyl. Are KL ones the same?

From what i can see the faces are leather but the seat sides, head rests, door trims and rear panels (map pockets) are vinyl.

factory mitsubishi leather is rather hard i use autoglym leather conditioner. if its really hard then use a really liquid product like repco leather care spray or mothers leather conditioner and let it soak in and then go over with autoglym or meguiares.

Dead animal skin does go hard if not looked after. Keep putting on the conditioners!
How can you tell if its vinyl or real leather?

If you have a piece of material look at the reverse side. Vinyl will have a knitted back pattern, but leather will look like suede. As far as finished product on seats is concerned, sometimes it can be difficult to distinguish. Vinyl will heat up faster in the sunlight or to the touch of a warm hand than leather.

Well.. my seats came out of a KH Xi, so I guess I've got leather?
Also, Hojo on the forums here used a product from the brand Mother and sang nothing but praise for it.

My KJ AWD has factory leather seats but the door inserts are vinyl. This was confirmed by a trimmer.
Mothers leather conditioner. I use it on my lounge as well. Just dont sit on it for a while after application.

My KJ GTVi seats are definatly leather (not sure about the pockets in the back... door cards definatly aren't leather) my old KS leather seats were mostly vynal though.
I tried some cheap crap out of a can and it didn't do anything, then I tried some meguires leather care stuff and it didn't do anything, then I got some autoglym stuff (seperate cleaner and conditioner, not and all in one) and while it did seem to do something it wasn't very much.
Just keep trying products until you find something that works, then tell us all about it
