Have a read of the Headlamp FAQ at the top of the section.
Philips Xtremepower +80% and Osram Nightbreakers +90% bulbs are both marginally whiter than stock (hardly a 'white' bulb though) but produce noticably better light. Most 'white' bulbs produce similar/less light output than the stock bulbs. I used to have Philips +50 bulbs and they were a worthwhile investment.
35w HIDs actually draw less power than your standard bulbs so they'll run cooler too. I've got HIDs in my parabolics and I'm not sure if I'd get them again if I had the choice. There's no distinct cut-off and the light is uneven and glary, which are common traits for aftermarket HID kits. They are also quite annoying to other drivers, although I have my low beams aimed down a little and they're passable. High beams are noticably better though, and obviously it's a very white light (which, I have to admit, is pretty cool :P).
HIDs aren't as simple as replacing the bulb though, so if you need to get them professionally installed, they won't be cheap.

If u wanna stay legal go Philips blue vision, they are white with little bluewish look n they are bright, BTW diamond vision are illegal
Or if u dont care about legality, I vote HID's they are great n bright as day light, 35W with 8000K bulb temp shld keep u out of troubles, have them since 2006 n never had an issues
That's my opinion anyway ;) good luck with ur decision

The osram's produce alot more light, not whiter, just more, and are about $30 a set, this is what I recommend to nearly everyone.
HID Globes I'd steer clear of, They give a much WHITER light yes but the light pattern is thrown everywhere and you will blind everyone in oncoming traffic, to stop it you can aim them down but that makes no sense.
I wouldn't really worry about HID's producing less heat as the headlight is designed to cope with the heat of a 60+55w bulb filament, as long as it doesn't run hotter it's fine.
For $150 you can get some of those fancy philips globes but personally they are just globes, if your going to fork out $150 every time to change a pair of headlights well.....I hope you have alot of money then :P

I have them in the TUFF and they are still as yellow as a normal globe, I see the comparison you've linked me to and they defiantly appear "whiter". But I purchased them for the increased light output and sensational price, the whiter light doesn't appeal to me much. Fractionally whiter but still a very yellow globe if you catch my drift lol i suck at explaining things.

I was under the impression that there were HID's then there were seperate xenon globs that were LIKE HID's but wifout the ballists and stuff i prolly mis interpreted :S

Xenon lamps are a specific type of high intensity discharge (HID) light. 'HID' and 'xenon' are often used interchangeably.
Read this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-intensity_discharge_lamp#Construction) and this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headlamp#HID_.28xenon.29_light_sources) if you want to feel nerdy :P

Bluevision aren't legal.
Crystalvision is what you are after. They let off a WHITE light (not blue), are better then standard yellows, and are about $100 a set retail.

If you want white light don't get Osram nightbreakers. I made the mistake of getting them and thinking they are white light... which there not. I would get Navra/phillips blue power

You can buy bulbs off UK sites etc at prices which make it very good value, compared to Aussie stores. However, be careful to avoid cheap EBay blue bulbs etc - some have been known to vapourise the external blue tint on the bulb, which makes a lovely vapour deposit inside your reflectors and ruins you headlamp unit. Or so I have read about!
Some of our major chain Auto parts shops will have a Philips display panel set-up with press-buttons to illuminate the various Philips bulbs - they have the Philips range divided by "MORE Light" (+50 and +80 bulbs) and another section "WHITER Light". Getting whiter looking bulbs tends to give you less vision from inside the car (but you look cool to others)......
I have some diamond vision or crystal vision in my KJ (bought from these forums) and you get the impression that you can't see much....... road signs and animal eyes light up extremely well, but the light appears a wierd bluish-greenish and doesn't seem to illuminate all that far. I have definately got used to it over time tho. I think some of my bulbs in the KJ are borderline legality, not quite sure.
In my TJ Sports I have Philips "More Light" which I think are the +80 ones - they have been in for a couple of years at least, but they were in the red/white Philips package. They are an improvement in what I can see, for sure. Just don't look as cool from outside the car. I try to deal with this sad situation!
The Headlamp FAQ thread is awesome, best info you will get -IMHO.

Yeah someone said to look there i was looking for ppls personal opinion.....a few ppl have said the phillips blue's lol i dunno i have been in cars with the whiter lights and they dont tend to hurt my eyes as much thts all and yeah i just didnt know which way to go lol
Elwyn, it sounds like you have diamondvisions. I used to own a set of Crystalvision's on my exec headlights and they were excellent. Do not suffer the loss of light the blue ones get, just a nice bright light, no blue tinge at all. When looking onwards at the car they arent blue, arent yellow, just a flat white. Speaking from experience, I would definately recommend them.
The only reason I haven't got another set is my car has a habit of blowing headlights for some reason (Guessing thats something to do with my overcustomisation of electronics :)).

I would go Narva Blue Power, they are +100% Globes, 80% More Light, 20% Whiter Light.
These are also re branded as Orasm Night Breakers.
I lost a low beam and did the replacement not that long ago too. I went for Osram Nightbreakers and got them from the UK, and are fantastic value for money.
Before with Artic blues:

Any halogen with a blue coating/tinge will give you whiter light at the expense of lumens, actuall light output,so in theory and practice, blue vision, crystal vison and diamond vision etc etc will all give you a whiter light, but will have less light on the road than a standard 60/55w H4 bulb!
I only recommend the Philips X-tremes +80% or the Narva/Osram "bluepower/nighbreaker" (same globe),these are slightly whiter than a standard halogen, but more importantly, put out more lumens, therfore light on the road than these "blue" globes
