G'day going through what gauges I need for my TR aka Trouble. I know how to wire up, volt and oil pressure gauge. Just need a bit information on water tempature gauge.
My questions are as follow:
Where is the best place to put a water tempture sensor on a four cylinder engine?
What I need to buy to get it working this gauge working?
Any information would be great help.

use a water temperature sensor adapter in the top hose. You cut the hose in half, and place it between the two pieces and thread your sensor in there. On my DOHC motor there was a spare space not used in the crossover pipe so i used that spare space for a temp sender. From there depending on what sensor you use it may earth through the block or you may need to run a separate earth.

Yep, as Tuffy suggests, but it depends on the kit you get, it should have instructions with it. One that has a direct replacement for the standard temp sensor in the thermostat housing would be great, but I haven't yet seen one of those.
Also consider an oil pressure gauge, it will give you a good indication of how healthy your engine is, and if the engine is happy with the oil grade you use.
