I'm working on compiling the XML definition files for several different AWDs, and have several ROMs already. Having several more, hopefully different, to compare against might help nail some things down, so if anyone can send me copies of unmodified ROM images for the following AWDs that would be appreciated:
- TJ2 Sports
- TL ES
- TL VR or VR-X

Images from Veradas would also be welcome for completeness, though I'm not sure whether they're any different from the base spec (Exec/ES).

If you can't read the ROMs yourself, but would be prepared to let me read the ECU from your car and live within a reasonable radius of Canberra, a meetup somewhere to do the copying would be an option.

Any XMLs that get to the point of being at least marginally interesting will be made available.

Note that the full ROM image from the AWDs should be 512kB; the auto tranny code lives in the upper 256kB. The first 256kB, as read by EvoScan/EcuFlash using the Evo 7/8 options, is enough for the engine maps. To get the full image requires a customised read template for EcuFlash.

Thanks,
Andy.

Hi Mate, I have a KL AWD and would be happy to help you out if you would like me to.

I don't have any scanning gear, but I might try and get in touch if I head down to canberra anytime soon - happy for you to scan my ECU.

Cheers

If you get desperate and can meet up some time, I've got a TJ 2 AWD Sports.
Or what equipment is needed to read from the ECU? I'm a computer nerd that likes gadgets :)

Well, I'm not quite desperate, as this is a part time project ... If a couple of other leads fall through, I'll get back to you about a meetup. Somewhere in the Southern Highlands maybe...

To reflash the ECU (reading the ECU ROM image is one part of reflashing) requires an OpenPort 1.3U or OpenPort 2.0 cable, the EcuFlash software, and a notebook PC. I got my 1.3U cable from www.evoscan.com, and also got a copy of EvoScan too, for logging ECU runtime data (which EcuFlash doesn't do). EcuFlash is a free download, but the cable needs a special code for it to work - the 1.3U and 2.0 cables should work; but other 1.3 variants won't.

For TJ/KJ and later ECUs, the 1.3U cable is sufficient and there's no advantage to getting the 2.0 cable.

It is possible that TL/KL ECUs may be readable with EvoScan's Evo9 ECU flashing option, but this definitely doesn't work with my TJ.

Cheers,
Andy.

Thanks. Do get in touch if you head this way. As noted in my reply to Oggy, from Canberra the Southern Highlands aren't that long a drive. Have even thought about joining a couple of the NSW cruises that have been this side of Sydney, but no round tuits found...

Cheers,
Andy.

Hey Andy.
Sounds like you know what you are looking at. A strange question but will try anyway.
Was just wondering if there is somewhere in the transmission software that enables or disables the use of the transmission to kick back gears while braking like they are meant to do.
I know there is a similar feature in the engine managment part to enable/disable the use of the temp sensor in the air intake to adjust spark timing and that they are all set to off from the factory. Have had that enabled with an SKR tune and it is very noticable.
Reason i'm asking is because i have a KE that kicks back down through the gears down a hill if you use the brakes a bit. It will even get back to 2nd and put the revs up round 4rpm to help slow you but i also have a KH and KJ that have never done this.

Thanks mate.

I don't know the answer to your question unfortunately. I'm still disassembling the ROM that I have, and have only really been focusing on the engine part of the code in my initial spelunking. A quick scan suggests there's actually quite a lot of code & data in the tranny part, so there could be all sorts of goodies in there. I'll try and remember to look out for this function, but I may never get to digging into the tranny code.

I have to confess that I habitually use the tiptronic to downshift for the purpose you mention, so haven't missed it in full auto mode. Probably because I drove a manual for 15 years before the Magna...

Thanks for the hint about the IAT function; that's something I'll definitely look for.

Regards,
Andy.
