Hi folks. The ol girl started playing up this arvy. The speedo doesn't go above 80kph. Are they cable driven? It is GPS measured accurate all the way to 80kph then it just stops there till the speed comes back under and it's accurate all the way back down.
Anyone have any ideas where to start looking.
I had the dash out 2 years ago to do the leaking seals in the heater so it's all been back together for a good while.
I know it's been a well hashed subject but I want to sort the dim dash lights if this is a dash out job. I'll be sifting through threads on dash lights but if someone has a setup they are happy with feel free to share the details.
It's a TF 3lt V6
No they are not cable driven, there is a digital speed sensor on the transmission. Auto or manual?

Speed is limited at 210 or 200, can't remeber.
Sure you don't have a plug lead off?

Sounds like the transmission may be in 'limp mode'
Do you have any warning lights on the dash?
What gear is the car in at 80km/h?

You'd hope he'd notice if it was in limp mode
lol indeed Dingers, i have heard just wiggeling the sensor can help with problems like these however havnt come across it myself, at 80 does the engine sound like it is overrevving? is the right jumpy or smooth? when you hit 80 does anything change ( engine noise, warning lights, start studdering, anything ?)

Hi folks. No nothing changes and the car drives sweet at all speeds. If you don't look at the speedo you wouldn't know anything was up. Box seems to change as usual, which is just fine.
I remember many years ago one of my old motorbikes did this but it was cable driven. The speedo had some goo in the back which was for dampening the needle movement and it was leaking out. It was more indicating a lower than actual speed though. Weird one.
I'll have a fiddle with the wires and plugs over the weekend.

Its your Speedo sensor, A Hyundai Sonata did the same got to 80 then it drops to 0 drop back to 60kms and it would come back up go to the wreckers and replace Speedo Sensor on the transmission

Hi Mightmag. There isn't a wrecker in the land up here who is prepared to separate the speed sensor from the gearbox. I admit I haven't used wreckers for a while now since I had the old Falcon many years back but it seems that gone are the days of wandering through a wreckers with a spanner in your hand to pick up the part you need.
I tried to buy a set or rims a while back for an old ute I have and they wouldn't let me even see the rims!! I had to buy them sight unseen??
