I looked at an engine and auto that had only done 48000k's at the wreckers today.
A 380 ES that had been hit real hard passenger side yet both airbags are okay.
Plenty of other good bits on it.
(except for the two driveshafts that are now missing...LOL)
Where? Deer Park wreckers...came in fresh as a daisy yesterday.

Any idea on how much they wanted for the engine?

Didn't ask...I was after the drive shafts...
But the last engine/transmission/etc I bought from them was $950, complete with bolt ons.

Theres actually a few that i know of on here... Zero, Alscall and that bloke from NSW (Bell) to name a few.
Ive done two 3.8L builds/convos, 1 for a magna and 1 for a verada.... Last time i bought a 3.8L to do a conversion they were quite aware of people wanting them so prices have gone up accordingly....

That's ridiculous!! I ddn't even pay that for my crate motor, plus I could've got one recently when my heads went for less than that & it only had 15,000kms on it. Search around & be prepared to haggle guys!!

Jason, what would you say is a reasonable price for a used 3.8L?

Depends on the Kms its done. If under 100,000kms then around $1300-1500 but having said that, finding a wrecker who will now sell for that price my take some finding or good haggling

Jason,
Where do MMAL source warranty replacement 6G75 motors from?
We know of at least one near full replacement (Blackstar), there are bound to be others.

As per legal requirements they are required to be able to supply replacement parts to cover the warrenty period of the vehicle as a minimum obligation.
As the 3.8L came from Japan they would still have to be able to supply them although as the 380's are now starting to come out of "factory" warrenty, MMAL will start to ween off the warrenty parts that they hold in the P&A warehouse (or PDC as MMAL call it)
At last check 5 mins ago there was 2 "short" motors available in sydney, my contact is sussing out exactly how many "long" motors are left.

Good luck, I tried to buy a long motor 6 months ago....NIL stock Australia.
But short motor...$2700 plus GST wholesale
You want heads with that? $1200 each plus GST
How about a sump, oil pump, gaskets, timing belt.....sorry all not included now.
As for warranty...they will need to keep an engine till at least October 2020...cause there is still a 380 that hasn't begun it's 10 year drivetrain warranty...:)
Hmmm! i did alright then!

Terry my contacts within MMAL (head office and dealer network) have all stated that the 3.8L engines (both short and long) and most (but not all) other parts are now ex Sydney PDC only, not the wingfield "TNT" warehouse.
Im sure Rory (im guessing you know him?) will suss out more if required

Maybe they were out of stock when I inquired in February....
But...$5500 is way, way, way out for a discontinued model...:)

Yep i laughed..... when i saw the email telling me that they were available and the price... I could "freshen" up a 3.8 for a fair amount less than that, including buying a low km engine from the wreckers.
