Hey guys I have a 1996 tf,

When I drive and slow down once it changes from second to first it feels like a bus has ran upy backside it's like a massive fud.

And when I try to change gears myself by using 2,3,L I go from 3 to 2 and it's a smooth change but then from 2 to first bam it's like a massive jerk I'm stck for ideas it's shocking almost like being rear ended every day it can't be good for my engine it feels like the motor wants to jump out any help would be great

So stop downshifting manually, autos don't like it generally, my TS does it too, so I leave the box to shift for itself. At least when slowing down. Upshifts I do manually quite often. You could try checking the Throttle Position Sensor for correct adjustment. When it thumps back into first, its stressing the gearbox, not the engine. When you slow down to a stop with throttle off the box stays in second, and doesn't engage first until you take off again (normally). If it engages first all by itself as you slow down there is a problem, possibly a faulty or maladjusted TPS.

If you really want engine braking by downshifting, you will need to get a car with a clutch. lol

When is the last time you had the tranny serviced?

You can disconnect and reconnect the battery to reset the transmission. My 1996 TE likes to down shift especially when braking hard while going down a hill but its not that jerky.

Nah mate I only tried downshifting to see if it wouldn't jerk but it still does I put it in D and drive it I don't drive it
Like a manual... Bit when I remove my foot from the pedal and the car slows down from second to first it's not a smooth change it's a jerk.

Serviced the tranny 3months ago it's still nice and red how do I check-adjust the TPS?

And also when I take my foot off and the cars in second slowing down if I put my foot back on the pedal it's slow to react and most times it stays in second and it feels like taking off in a manual car in 3rd gear it feels very delayed to react.

Read the manual.

like MaxMad said :)

in the manual, I think its page/section 13-2-36 you'll find details about the TPS and how to remove and install etc.
I recently had a tps problem so been to those pages a few times.
also I had heavy thudding from downshifting when I had too much tranny fluid in.

Just don't shift down to first gear. Mine does the same, I just go down to 2 max.

I think his car thumps into first as he slows down without him touching the stick. AFAIK.
