Hey guys i have a 1996 TE V6 Magna and am wanting to replace the spark plugs soon. I have heard that i should get the platinum ones that last 100,000k's.

How much are 6 of these? Reason I ask is because I saw in my SCA Catalougue 6 are going for about $38.99 and i thought ones that would last that long, would cost alot more.

Also what are the deal with the Fusion plugs?

I got myself NGK iridium 9's and to be honest they do what they say on the tin so no complaints. Noticably better idle over the shagged Bosch plugs

I think if you read the current SuperCheap catalogue, it mentions that the Platinum Bosch plugs in question have a very tiny platinum core, and it states something like 25% increased life over "Super Plus" (ie: bog standard) Bosch plugs.

I put Bosch platinum plugs in at 100K services on 2 cars, buit haven't yet pulled a plug to see how they are lasting..... (not enuf miles on the clocks yet). May check this weekend. Also, until (if) I get to SuperCheap on weekend, I dunno if what is advertised at the moment is what I used. FWIW, I haven't noticed any drama with the Bosch plugs - my TJ Sports and dad's TJ Exec have the Bosch, and my KJ has NGK Platinums. It would seem that I'll get the expected 100,000 out of the NGK and probably not get that far on the Bosch (if what I've used are like what is advertised now).

from my experience bosch plugs have a history of premature failure in our climatic conditions, ngk iridiums get my vote any day.
i was speaking to a friend from portugal who has been in the game long before i was even born, and funny enough in the northern hemisphere they worship bosch and wouldnt spit on ngk.
one thing that we did agree on is that denso plugs are also good... oh and the magna/verada is a nice car lol

I just run "standard" NGK plugs in my magna, good enough for 45000kms (thats standard factory service interval for the front 3 cylinders) and its only takes 30mins and a plenum gasket to change the rear 3 plugs.

I have the Bosch platinum plugs in my KJII. Just been through the whole ignition system replacing leads, dizzy cap & rotor & thought I may as well do the plugs at the same time as the inlet plenum has to come off to change the leads. The old Bosch plugs had 67,000 km on them & frankly, they looked in pretty much perfect condition, so I have no reason to suspect that they won't do 100,000.

I am the same, but thinking about it I dont think I have had a car for 45k's let alone the same engine in one for that long either lol

Have a look on US ebay for the NGK ones.

They're often available for a lot cheaper than here, even after shipping costs, especially now with the exchange rate. Then you can go platinums all around if you wish!

Check out this thread: New spark plugs (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79390)

It's about replacement plugs for a 380 (6G75) but the same plugs should be OK for a 6G72 or 6G74, and there are several links to US eBay sites which sell cheap NGKs, as alscall says.

The NGK BKR5EGP (platinum, not iridium, but damn near as good and should last you 100,000km) are going for US$2.79 each, and given the current exchange rate ($1 oz buys 97 yank cents) that's dirt cheap, and postage is reasonable, check out this page: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NGK-Premium-Spark-Plugs-BKR5EGP-Stk-7090-Best-Value-/170443658934?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27af3bd6b6

At that price you might as well get six and do the rear bank as well.
