Guys - I received my shiny new Whitline front strut brace today.

My question is, do the bolts on the strut tower need to be re-tightened to a particular torque rating or not?

In a word - yes they should be torqued - of the top of my head i can't remember.

However - you are working with spring washers and hi-tensile bolts - all the cars i have put them on - i tighten to tight and leave it at that - won't snap the bolts - and am yet to have one come undone

Sorry Jon my pager was out of batteries :bowrofl: Ideally you should use a torque wrench so that all 3 nuts are equal tightness, but it is not as important as wheel nuts being equal tightness.

I don't know the torque rating for gen3 strut top nuts, otherwise I just usually do them up until you can feel the nut resisting, then go for a further 1/4 turn. This gives a reasonable amount of consistency.

How much did that strut brace set you back? I'm interested in getting one before too long.

As TheDifference said, around the $160-170 mark.. mine was cheaper because I got 20% off :D

You can buy direct from whiteline but for some reason they sell them for nearly $20 more than their dealers.

When I get home from work Ill post up the torque settings for you.

I would definitely advise on setting these.. last thing you want is a nut pinging off...

I'm in! Blake I do hope you make a bit out of these group buys for all the trouble of sourcing, delivery etc!

Is this something I can install myself reasonably easily? Or should I take it to my mechanic?
There's three bolts either sid, it may sound studpid but will my wheels fall off or something, or my shocks rocket in to the air if these are undone to install the brace?

Jack the front of the car up and undo the bolts.. You wont have anything flying off so theres no worry there.

There is probably a tension setting for the strut brace aswell.. Not sure but it would come with the brace.

I don't make anything on these group buys lol I wish. I just do it as im getting the part anyway and might as well get everyone in on it so we can all get it cheaper. Im sure no one has any complaints :D

As for installation, Bain is spot on (as usual lol) and you won't have any problems doing it. But when working with a car I allways like to stick to the correct torque settings when tightening bolts / nuts etc as you'd be surprised the difference it can make. If you don't have a torque wrench don't go rushing out and buying one as im sure there will be someone you know with one.

Aaargh??? heya bain - just a Q - why are we jacking up the front of the car?? Cos this is a strut brace - not a sway bar - so it goes across the top of the struts - and you will want the car resting on the ground for this.

I was told you should jack the car up so the pressure is off the struts.
