Hey guys,
tonight I drove my car into the city with no dramas at all, car has typically been running rather well of late. Anyway I get in it to come home and from the moment I turned the key to getting home, it would not idle at less that 1,600rpm. Is there any reasonable answer to why it just decided to do this? is there an easy fix or way to figure out why its playing up? If its the same in the morning I might have a play with the idle screw cause I'm out of time, leaving for MMX at 1pm
Any ideas or tips would be great!

mine used to do this, it turned out to be the O ring on the ISC

i popped the bonnet and flicked the TB, seemed like it went all the way back to close. I'l be sitting at near 3,000RPM most of this afternoon, just hope its not the choke wide open and its dumping a mountain of extra fuel in :(
Might need some bush mechanic skills when I get to Hay tonight...

Sounds like an idle stepper motor issue. Cheap and easy to replace.

you're probably right. This morning it behaved itself better, idling at about 1,200RPM then at times would dip to the tuned 900RPM.
Is there anywhere in Adelaide where I could find one of these mistery items...?? :P

Yeah heaps of places where you can get one. You're welcome to come to my place and park there. UPI is 2 minutes drive from mine if you want a second hand one :P
Msg me your phone number if interested :)

If it is the idle stepper motor, which it sounds like it is, the problem won't go away, it'll just fluctuate. It went in my car (not a Magna I know, but still a Mitsu) and sometimes it would behave fine and idle at 1,000rpm like it should, then other times it would idle at 3,000rpm, then sometimes 2,500rpm - it was very strange. Changed the idle stepper motor - problems gone. In my car it was quite an expensive part (about $450 from memory - had to be specially imported from Japan) But literally 30 mins to replace. Hopefully it's as easy on a Magna engine.
Sure is, it's fairly easy to replace on a stock motor.. not sure about this car though :P
I can check price and availability on a new one later on if you want :)
PFFFFF, $120 for a new one
If it was $20-40 I was going to get it for you, but I'll await your confirmation
I'm headed to thise place to get my parts now so I'll need confirmation soon, I hope you have mobile broadband :P

I have about 15 ISC's here so just give me a holla. Remove the section of intake to your TB and it's a 5 minute job. 8mm 1/4" socket on a small extension will do the trick just fine.
