hey all,

so when i bought the new TF home the other day i noticed a burning smell coming from under the bonnent when i parked it into the shed, well after a couple f days i got the new battery from it today and decided to give it a kick and got the same burning oily kind of smell. thing is i cant see oil leaking anywhere or anything that might actualy cause the smell.

any ideas on where to start?

Its surprising how much smoke and smell a single drop of oil on a hot exhaust system can make. Wait until night, run the car until hot, pop the bonnet with the engine running and shine a torch at the back of the engine. You may catch a puff or cloud of blue smoke as oil drips on the rear manifold. Pull off the rear rocker cover and have a look. It may be damaged, pinched or not tightened down correctly.

Maybe it was something electrical shorting out that caused the smell resulting in the flat battery.

New exhaust components often smell once they are hot - eg: Pacemaker extractors are painted blue initially, but after a while (a long while for us) it burns off or burns in and finally stops smelling.

Are there any new exhaust bits on the car?
