hey all,

so im looking at putting some splits into the recently aqquired TF magna ( 1998) and i just cant work out where to fit the tweeters. yes im recoving the whole interior when it comes to panels etc i want to keep it as close to stock looking as i can. now im wondering i have seen some later model magnas had a pod for the tweeters in the a pillar and im just wondering if these a pillars are interchangeable or if there is someway i can fit the tweeters in while still keeping the look smooth

The later series cars with OEM tweeters have them fitted at the front top corner of the door trims - just inside from the mirrors. There is a little triangular panel (referred to as the "sail" panel, as in sail-boat - or else as the delta (shape) panel).

The covers for the tweeters simply clip-in to replace the normal flat triangular panel, and are readily available as a spare part, or from wreckers. Its a two minute job to unclip the flat panel and clip in the tweeter-housing panel (obviously much longer to run wires and actually mount a tweeter The tweeter covers will fit any 3rd Gen. Use teh edge of a knife, or a small straight bladed screwdriver to gently lever the top of the triangular panel away from the car door - you'll probably find that the panel kind of "hinges" away at the bottom. There are two plastic tabs at the bottom, and a little "plug" nearer the top of the triangular panel -the "plug" catches in a rubber recess behind the panel and is mostly what secures the panel in position.

OEM tweeters are secured by small metal brackets and two screws, and there is a "channel" in the rubber backing to allow wiring to extend down and behind the door trim. I've just stayed with the OEM tweeters that came in my TJ Sports and KJ. Other members have found it easy to MOD better-quality tweeters into the standard housing.

For what its worth, the plastic "grille" on the OEM tweeter panels should be easy to remove if you wish - its a seperate casting, as one fell away on one of mine while I was fiddling... mine is now secured back in place with a dob of silastic - but if you want to gaze at tweeter cones etc, it shouldn't be hard to remove the plastic 'mesh/grille'.

Aquaman speaks the truth!

If you get stock tweeters from a wrecker (if its self-serve), the covers unclip as described and its two screws to take the tweets and the bracket away. I honestly forget if the wiring connector for the tweeters sits above or below the top of the door trim. ie: you may have to unclip teh whole door trim to disconnect the tweeter from the loom (and that bit of loom in the door may be handy anyway). BUT if you only want the black plastic covers, you don't need to touch the door trim, just proceed as Aquaman has described.

If you only want the covers for your own after-market tweets, you may as well get the covers and then experiment with how you'll mount the better tweets you have bought. Search for old threads may indicate what others have done to achieve this.

hey m8 there is one other thing u can do, if u have flush mount tweeters you can put them in the 2 round plastic things on either side of the dash, its where the factory ones are in the verada.
really easy to do aswell.
hope this helps

2 Easy ways to fit tweeters in a car that does not have sail panels are the use a hole saw and flush mount them in the area in the pic above, or flush mount them in the door trim also using a hole saw.

The best but hardest way it to fiberglass up some A Pillars to fit tweeters.
