Me again,
Found a smashed up TJ Sports at the reckers. Just wondering if its dash would fit in my TE Altera - to be more corect the dial cluster. I've still got analogue gauges, the TJ sports has the trip computer and stuff. Just wondering if it would be a direct swap (reading the data from teh computer) or if it would be a complete utter waste of time and could better spend the hard earned dollars else where (like on a lolly pop or something).

Also anyone ever plugged a Ipaq in to their diagnostic port? Have no need to do it, but I have a geek streak in me!

I think the digital odometer is controlled via the ECU and hence, unless you got the newer ECU to suit the sports model, it would not function, although the analog unit in the TE is electrical, so it might function.

And to connect your Ipaq to your ODB port you would need some interceptor circuitry.

If you just wanted the dials, you can swap the dial skins over really easy along with the back light globes if they are a different colour :D ..Although wern't most series 1 TJ still fully analoge as in ODO and so on???

This one has the digital odometer and speed alert at least. Speed alert is really what I want and can just have installed for around $150 with a VDO unit. However if the dash also has the trip computer, distance to empty, fuel use etc I'd be very interested in making it work. I'll have a chat to my mitsi servicer when I go in for my 135 000 service. They're getting sick of me (read seeing dollar signs), only had my 125 000 service 4 weeks ago!

I looked into this on my 96 TE Altera and it couldn't be done :doubt: Well not cheaply anyway, you need to install sensors, upgrade the ecu and all not worth it.

How much did the wrecker want out of curiosity

Thanks for that Blake. Analogue cluster it is!
TJ Sports can stay where it is - I'm nicking the comfy seats though! I've worn my but crack into mine!
