Hi all ok I'll explain a little better, I was in a hurry before.
Ok I have a 1991 TR. I am in the process of replacing the insert on the passenger side engine mount.
For autos you cannot buy the full mount, you can only buy the insert, and that is aftermarket (kelpro)

So I have brought the Kelpro insert. Although it looks very different to the original insert it is the correct one for the TR.

The original mount/ insert is OFFSET. The new Kelpro mount is offset as well. When I say offset I mean the bolt hole in the centre of the insert is not central it is offset by about 30 mm.

My question is does the offset sit too the top or does it sit at the bottom???
OR does it sit slightly to one side????

The Kelpro mount comes with a piece of paper that says,,the old mount in your car is offset it may appear to be in the centre but this is because it has sagged.

So in my way of thinking I would put it at the bottom so when the weight of the motor is on it, it will be stretched too the centre, but I have a mechanic Today say the opposite..but he wasn't sure so I have not pressed it in.

Surely there is someone in this group who has replaced this insert; if that person is reading this can you please tell me which way you put the mount in???Please

I have asked 3 mechanics today and the whole 3 seemed unsure.

is this a V6 or 4 cyl

you mark the positions of the old mount in the bracket ( ie hacksaw marks )

take some measurements from the center hole
to marks you make on the bracket
you then press out the old mount
press in the kelpro mount to suit the marks and measurements

Hi,
Thanks for your reply Its a 4 Cylinder Hmm Things would be a bit easier for me if the old mount was still in the correct shape,, but it has sagged split cracked so on and so on. So you can really take any measurements from the old mount. Some one in this group must have replaced this mount before. If I don't get the info from the group I'll get it some time next week from kelpro or a more confident mechanic that has done it before.

I recently got a full set of mounts for a 2.6 engine and they seem in average condition still, I was going to have a go at urethane mounts. Im not sure which ones which but I can take a pic of all 4?

this Kelpro mount is for the gearbox side

the instructions that come with the Kelpro mount clearly indicate that pipe is to the top
when pressing it back into the housing

I have had Mitsy Bits tell me that the offset goes too the bottom,, but he didn't sound 100% sure,,,Then I had a mechanic that I was getting to press it in he said I think it goes the other way but he wasn't sure. So until I feel 100% sure I don't want to get it pressed in. Mitsy bits said the center of the mount is bolted to the fire wall it doesn't move,, so when the engine weight is on the mount it pulls down THUS the bolt will move more to the center of the mount.,,,,,,BUT the mechanic said it should be at the top as the torque of the motor pushes up.

What do you think??????????????????????????????????

instructions from kelpro
now to me this indicates its the gearside mount has the offset
because the bracket drawing is different

this is the engine mount side its pipe is in the middle of the mount
so no mistake can be made it has to take the weight of the motor

Hi thanks heaps for your effort I really apprieciate it.

This car is a first car I have brought for my 16 year old Daughter.

when you brought your mount did you get these instructions????

All I got was a small piece of paper that said your original mount has an offset crush tube, it may apear that the crush tube is in the center but this is not true it has sagged. It was originaly offset.

So that just makes me think OK if they are saying that the OLD mount has sagged to the center point,,,SO the crush tube must have been offset to the bottom and then moved up to the center posission from the weight of the motor..... Because IF the offset was at the top of the mount the only way it could sagge to the center is buy the motor pushing it up.

DO you agree with that??????

When I look at your pics/drawings the second one looks more like the mount HOUSING,, but the insert has no offset.

IF I look at the first pic/drawing the HOUSING looks different,, but it has an off set insert.

I have double checked with Sprint Auto parts and they assure me that is the correct mount,,, But I have had them be wrong on some things before in the past

Hi again SORRY I didn't read your text I see now that you have basically said that it looks like I have the wrong mount.
The mount I have looks like it is meant for the gearbox side.

The mount I asked for and double checked with Sprints IS Passenger side.

The Gearbox/Trans is on the driver side. I will call into sprints today after work,,,AND ask them to check again.

the instructions and pictures
came with the packet with the mounts

I think you were given the gearbox mount by mistake

you need the mount that has the metal pipe in the centre

then you should be ok

pictures help dont they

Hi again I have checked with Sprints and they Say no the mount we have given you is the correct one. I also rang AutoBarn & repco They also say that the mount is offset & they give the same part Number as Sprints.
I asked sprints about the part number that you have on the Drawing you sent me, they said that part number comes up as a TP passenger side.

Is your car a TP ????

Mine is a TR 1991 magna. I still will be contacting KELPRO to ask them exactly where the offset sits.

the TR/TS KELPRO mount is in the first picture

part number for that mount kelpro MT8509N its the same mount as a gearbox mount for a TM-TP

the TN-TS four cylinder are the same motor so should have the same mounts

just different part numbers

Fitting instructions explained
just showing the diagrames that should come with the mounts from kelpro

there shown as the example of side to side difference for you

the engine mount should be a more solid mount

In the second pic that you have that is the same as the Housing that I have for the pass side.

The part Number that Sprints give me is MT8506N....That is what they say is for pass side

They say that the part number MT8509N is the gearbox mount for the TR

So I have the Number for Kelpro Tech support and I'll give them a call on Monday.

I Know I'm probably wrong and just wasting time but,, I just can't see HOW if I put the offset too the top the mount how it works,, as when the engine weight is on the mount the center metal tube will become even closer too the top of the mount.

IF the offset is placed at the bottom When engine weight is placed on the mount the metal tube will become round about central.

The metal tube is bolted too the fire wall it sits still the mount will move down from engine weight.

please don't get me wrong thanks for all of your replies You have helped me sort it out. I just will call Kelpro now to make sure which way it goes.

see what info you can get from kelpro

then have the mount pressed in (fitted to kelpro instructions )

my prefererence is a solid mount on motor side

they last longer and dont sag

With the solid mount, I was thinking about that. Sprints told me for an auto I can only buy the insert, But with the manual I could buy the whole mount, A solid mount. They said if you want you can use the Manual mount on an Auto. I didn’t take it only because I heard that the solid mount tends to give off more vibrations. In a manual this would go unnoticed but it might be more noticeable in an Auto in Drive. But I’m only going on what I've heard
