Two clips on the bottom of the seat (one each side) clip them up and wiggle the seat, they will pop out, and the bottom of the seat will slide out.
once that is out, you will have access to the rear section which is held in with IIRC 3-5 10mm and 12mm bolts. Remove these, slide the seat UP (as they are slid on hooks on the back)
and the rear seat will be out!
Hey - thanks for this. Just to confirm, this is the best way to get access to the faulty seat belt mechanism? and if I need to replace it?

AFAIK it's the only way! (unless someone can tell me otherwise?!?!) And yeah, I'd just replace it. Don't think it's a serviceable unit!

yep, two 10mm bolts and a 12mm bolt in the middle hold the back part of the seat on. as tuffy said remove the base first by pulling out the clips underneath the seat.
to get to the actual mechanism you also need to remove the c-pillar cover which is just held in place by a few plastic and metal clips, a bit of gentle persuasion should get it to come loose
edit: if it's the centre seat belt you need to remove the parcel tray to get to the centre mechanism.
When do gain access to the tensioner unit, there are many different methods of unlocking them although usually just undoing them from the body will unjam them. Methods I've found useful are to tap the side of the unit with a small hammer - just gentle taps will usually do it. Make sure the unit is held in the position it normally is in when tapping. Clamping in a vyce when doing this also helps. There are sites on Google that show how to disassemble the unit to replace the belt if it's damaged. 90% of the time I've had trouble with them, they've unlocked for no apparent reason other than releasing the tension on them.....and seeing as we had 7 kids plus a growing number of G/kids, I've retrieved ice block sticks, lolly wrappers and bubble gum from them quite a number of times. Good Luck.
thanks Gents - if I stuff it up I can always dump it in Mitsubishi dealers lap :).
