With the current high exchange rates now is the time to import any timing belt kits, hydraulic tensioners, water pumps or other small parts etc.
A check on the www.rockauto.com website shows that you can get a (Diamante 6G74 engine) Dayco Water Pump Kit ( Belt, Water Pump, Hydraulic Tensioner, idler and belt tensioner and seals) for $235landed at the door in Sydney including freight.
Even with the included $60 odd freight still beats what you will pay from Mitsubishi/Repco/Bursons etc.

Yep, definitely worth investigating.
I'm currently restoring another Mitsubishi vehicle and here in Oz we are being ripped off big time on some bits. Here's an example of a suspension part I have ordered.
lateral Arm L/H MR325576 Aust. $488.45 USA $30.00
Both genuine and from the dealers. $60USD delivery + $60USD the pair =$120 delivered to my doorstep.
A saving of over $800 and MMAL have to order and import these anyway and I have drive 30k's each way to pick them up.

Should do a group order by state or something with more secure shipping.
I'm after a rear camber kit myself.

Be careful where these parts are made, Sharkie learnt the hard way with a cheap water pump failing just 40k after having been installed
In short, you pay for what you get, pay peanuts and you will get monkeys, pay shit for parts and you will get shit parts.....

Just a thought to consider.
I contacted customs and over $1000 there is duty and GST payable. Can't remember if that was in our money or USD but it's nearly at parity so not going to matter too much either way.

Where would be the best place to get a new tensioner and are there any I should avoid? Belt only was replaced on my TL just before I bought it (12 months ago @95,000ks). Only done 115,000ks since then and have been getting the cold-start clatter lately.

Look up Import Auto Performance on eBay, that's where I got my rear camber kit from. Shipping is no dramas, I ordered on Thursday Night (Aus Time), paid extra for express shipping, and the package rocked up my door on Monday morning in regional Queensland :o

The import tax on items over $1000 is 20%. 10% customs tax and 10% import duty.

You can do that, but of course there are consequences if you're caught.
I had the Gruppe M intake for my car delivered from Japan as a $100 gift which apparently gets around the import taxes.
