Hi to all
If you have changed your engine mounts on your TR, With Kelpro Mounts than you would know the answer to this question.

For the passenger side mount ( Insert ) After market ( Kelpro ) This insert is offset.

Which way did you have the offset to the top OR to the bottom of the mount once its pressed in?????

I have tried to line mine up, and too the Bottom seems too High and too the top seems to low.

My Tr is 1991. The TP finished I think around 1991. The Tp mount for that side is not offset it is central.
So I'm beginning to think that may be the early TR might be CENTRAL as well.

I have Called the KELPRO Tec Phone number THAT was a waste of a phone call ( don't know we just sell them as to what the Mitsy specs are)

never used em but i am curious why for the same price you didnt just pick up a genuine mount or buy one from a wreckers that at least you now fits, im also wondering why u mention a tp did u previously own one or did u mention cause you got a tp part?

I would put it in with the offset to the top. That way as the engine weight loads it up, it will be in the middle.

Hi thanks for the reply
OK I have found the answer It goes to the bottom as I got some pics from kelpro.
Think of it like this the bolt in the centre of the mount is fixed to the fire wall it does not move So read this below

If you Nailed a block of cheese to a wall and pulled down on the block of cheese the nail would slowly move top the top,So if it starts at the bottom it moves up

Anyway I have 100% proff now from Kelpro. It's funny I had about 6 Mechanics that looked at my old mount and took their best guess and said they would put it up the top.

If I had of went with this My motor would be sitting to low and more weight on my roll stops and more vibrations.

I wonder how many people have taken their TR to their local mechanic and they have pressed an insert in the wrong way. They come and pic the car up and it still vibrates in DRIVE the mechanic gives them some crap story about ah it's an old car the timing chain needs doing the crank shaft needs balancing and so on.

When you say get a genuine as far as I know you can't get them anymore I tried lots of places and I did try mitsy they said they have been obsolete for 8 years.

Sprint Auto and all the others Repco etc said For the autos you can only get an aftermarket insert. I don't want to buy an old one from a wreckers. If you know where you can buy a new one please let me know (Genuine )

Sprint Autos said for a manual you can buy the whole mount they said their kelpro book says that the manual mount won't fit the Auto. NOW Autoban and all the others said the same,,,BUT I took it up with kelpro and the said they made a mistake the hard copies that they had given places like Sprints' etc are wrong IT SHOULD SAY THAT THAT MOUNT CAN DO MANUAL AND AUTO.

So I have take my INSERT back to Sprints and go a whole mount part Number MT9564. This has a much better insert in it. I have put it in and NOW the motor in DRIVE is a smooth as a babies bum.

What a headache just for a mount.

You need to take a Zen approach. Look not to your destination, just enjoy the journey.

Shit I need to type slower OR go back to School OR a bit of both. I just read my last post,,,misspelt words everywhere. Some words are missing letters.

This car I brought for my eldest daughter she has just turned 16.

Hi Nago,

Thank you for a most insightful read. I have a nasty vibration issue. Ive tried quite a lot to reduce or remove it but had not considered engine mounts until reading your posts.

Most of my experiences with working on my TR have been trial and error until i finally get it right. I have found the same for locating non genuine parts vs genuine mitsi parts but for the most part there is someone out there with the bits i need (just depends on what lengths i wish to go to find them)

Best of luck with the TR for your eldest daughter.

I hope to hand my TR to my son when he is of age to drive. (Another 6-7 years wait)

Cheers
