Got idling problems and reckon it's the ISC.
Bought one from Mitsu and the guy said you need to connect the car to a computer (MUTT) and calibrate the stepping or else it's pot luck whether it's installed correctly or not.
Anyone shed any light on this as I cannot see how you could fit an ISC wrong and there's nothing in any old threads other than direct replacement.
I know the TPS needs calibrated but when I mentioned it he says both ISC and TPS need "stepped"

TPS isnt a stepper motor, its a potentiometer, giving a reading out of 100% to the ECU. The way your fuel gauge works (from the fuel sender)
I have heard this too as it needs to be reset. however I've had a crap ISC before, thrown another one in from the wreckers and it's worked fine. 10 minute job and it's fixed.
I guess it's more better be safe then sorry, but yeah no harm in just throwing one in

+1 for what Tuffy said.
The new ISC and ECU will initially get really confused, and the idle may be high or low, or just go up and down. A new one doesn't need anything else other than to go through the confusion stage. A MUTT tune would help it get there quicker, in the workshop. Replaced one on a TS and it settled in nicely all by itself.
TPS can be adjusted with a multimeter. Doing it with the MUTT is just a fancy way of doing it yourself with a multimeter.TPS is just a switch to tell the ECU the throttle is off, and a potentiometer to tell the ECU how much throttle you have on, its important to get this right as it affects how the auto trans shifts. A lot of auto "problems" are due to the TPS not working properly, or being out of adjustment.

Cheers guys, fitted the new one and alls good, only prob I had was the new one didn't come with an "O" ring and mine was split and stretched but trimmed it with a Stanley knife and all was good, might pick up another "O" ring at my leisure.
And yeah, 10 minute job
Hi all,
hope you don't mind me cutting in.
I have read it's common for the isc on these TR's to stuff up.
Thanks for what this thread has pointed out.
I wasn't sure if you had to set it or not.
So it's as easy as that just screw it in and let the computer and isc talk and they will work it out,,,and it's only a 10-15 min job ??
Thanks

2 Philips head screws and out it comes, be careful of the "o" ring, I bought a replacement and it was $10:eek2:
