Hi guys, I'm currently getting certain parts for the car, I already have a new Sony BT3850 head unit installed which looks awesome (especially compared to the yucky, poorly installed earlier Pioneer head unit) and matches the car perfectly.

Now I have bought 2 12" subs in 2 separate boxes (i.e. the amp cannot be installed onto the back of the sub box) and a large monoblock amp to drive them. I didn't think to get a slim amplifier (although that would have been a fair bit less powerful and a fair bit more expensive) so now I'm looking into a place to put this amp. The amp has been ordered but I won't have it for a bit so now is the time to consider placement.

The dimensions of the amp are 356.8 × 55 × 276.8mm.

Looking into where I can put it, there are a few options as far as I see it

1. Under the driver's seat. I think with these dimensions it just fits in there. Cons would be the passenger leg (foot?) room as I carry some tall people around. Most have their own car or will be getting their P's soon so it's not the biggest problem. I'm also unsure if I could still slide the chair forward and backward reliably with an amplifier of this height under there. Advantage is that I don't have it sitting in the boot looking untidy.

It should be noted that I already have a 4 channel amplifier underneath the passenger seat so it obviously cannot go there.

2. In the boot. I'm unsure of placement in the boot however as I like the look of the subs placed behind the rear seat pointed towards the back of the car. I wanted to keep the ski port functional just in case (I never know what I will end up doing, I have had fishing rods in there before) so bolting it onto the back of the seat isn't a hugely favourable idea.

Things I have had suggested are placing the amp directly in front of the subwoofers, which would look cool because the amp is front and center but I would think wires would have to be led all across the boot floor which wouldn't look great :-/.

I have also had the corners of the boot suggested, ie where the boot is open, and on the right/left directly in front of the wheel arches. As I do plan on getting another 4 channel amp in the future to replace the one underneath the drivers seat, one which will likely be larger in size (and therefore wouldn't fit underneath the drivers seat) the idea of one amp on either side makes sense.

Lastly, is having the subs located in those corners of the boot (which I have not tested for size as of yet) and putting the amp where the subs would have been. Which also makes sense (in case of a second amplifier, I may be able to put it in front of that amp) and would allow for full use of the ski port at any time but I'm unsure how the subs would look. They would definitely need to have velcro fitted to prevent movement, whereas they seem to fit rather snugly in just behind the rear seats.

Can I get any comments or suggestions? I can't help but feel that I made a bit of a mistake not getting a slim amp but I'm not sure 250W RMS per sub is a decent amount for a 380W RMS/1300W PMPO sub. It's also far too late to get it swapped with something else, as I did a swap to get the amp which is coming now (accidentally ordered outdated model :-/)

Just thought I'd add that although I said amps in the corners I meant that they would be placed on the floor of the boot (or atleast that was my interpretation)

I must admit however, something like this would be awesome (taken from the helpful Car Audio Installation Thread)

Is this just a straight bolt onto the stock boot fitting? (I think thats what I see in this image)

I think this would be an ideal option for me if so. If its not, how can this be implemented and how much would it cost? (I'm not handy with these things)

Will it fit upside down bolted to the parcel shelf underside? Just have to keep the wiring clear of the hinges but a few cable ties keep it all tidy, its a pain to try to line up bolt holes etc but once the parcel shelf carpet goes back over the bolt heads its all tidy. As far as I know you can drill holes in the parcel shelf, just not remove large sections of metal that may alter the structural integrity (extra speaker holes)

screw it to the side of the sub box. if your able to screw the boxes together it would work or screw it to one and run a set of cables to the other

for one, i wouldnt recommend bolting it upside down as it will be a heat issue, also it may add extra weight to the bootlid and not open as easily. I have a dual 12' subs and mono block mounted in my boot and room also for my tools for work, if you look at my members ride thread (cal's sports) you can see how i mounted it. i created a false floor so all the wiring comes under that to my amp and then to subs...

The design of the sub boxes means that the amp cannot be bolted onto them (curved back, side isn't big enough)

Magna Sports 1999 I've had a look in your thread, the pic is a bit small though so I can't really see much of whats happened.

Thats a pretty cool place to put the amp, I'd like to get it mounted there but I'm really unsure how to go about it. Directly on the sides of the boot in that section looks like my favourite spot but I really don't know how to do that. I'm looking at mounting them straight horizontally but any idea for that section I would be interested in.

Once the amp comes in I think I will have it placed temporarily in the center in front of the subs until I can get something like that implemented

what about something a little simpler like my setup in my TJ? just an idea

but mine appears rough with no floor carpet....once the carpet went back in it blended in nicely....

out of curiosity which way will the subs be facing?

As long as length and width fits, that amp will go under the drivers seat no worries, both of my amps are under the front seats, they're 63mm and 60mm and they would both fit either side, thats with the electric drivers too which reduces height space. It'd be a tight fit with length though, unless you want to run it length ways with the car, but then you'd be able to see it on the floor from the back seat which personally I'd hate.

Easiest thing to do is take the drivers seat out and see if it'll sit flat on the floor how you want it to. That's where I'd put it if it can fit. Apart from anything else, thick power cables running the length of the car and into the boot, don't like it personally.

The fact that your subs have a PMPO rating at all is already setting alarm bells off in my head.

As for amp placement you should have no probes under seat. My amp is maybe a little higher and longer and I have no issues.

They wren't rated with a PMPO rating as such, thats just how I read the larger number

The subs will be pointing towards the back of the car

Ben23, I'd prefer to keep access to the boot hatch open, (subs are fairly easy removable)

The rate it's gonig, I will probably put the monoblock amp directly in front of the subs and if I manage to finish the rest of the audio components, then look into an alternate location.
