View Full Version : Fitment of extractors
Hay all
Ill be recieving my RPW race extractors early next week. They say these are a direct fitment. Just wondering is it easy to remove the old manifolds and piping.? Fitting the extractors is this hard? Do u need any special tools?

Never done it myself mate, but watched the fitting of RPW extractors on both my TE and 380.
Pretty sure no special tools are needed, maybe a breaker bar to crack the exhaust manifold nuts which can be pretty tight and/or rusted on.
Also helps to have the car up on a proper hoist to get at the rear manifold/extractor and the flex pipe flange nuts/bolts.
I suspect it would be a prick of a job trying to do it with the car up on just ramps or jacks & axle stands, not to mention bloody dangerous.

i didnt mine on car stands wasnt that hard at all. no special tools required either but a ratchet spanner did come in handy but can be done with spanners and ratchets

I just replace mine last week! I was thinking to doit by my self to, but i didn't have a stand axle, ramp etc, and i took the car to a muffler shop. They charge me $170 to replace the extractors (wich i think is pretty good price for this job).
P.S. You gonna need to replace the gaskets aswell!!!
Do the RPW race extractors come with the new gaskets.

They can if they are still in good knick, maybe use some high temp sealant to aid it.

They really cheap! I paid for mine $13. That's a pair of gaskets(front and rear bank)+ bushes includet in package
Just fitted extractors. all went well. But theres a little pipe that went from the inlet manifold to the original exhaust manifold. Now theres a hole in the inlet manifold im assuming its ok cause i got nothing in the post to cover the hole and there no air coming in or out of the hole??

That's your EGR. As long as it doesnt enter the actuall intake manifold you will be fine. Not sure as I dont know much about EGR

You will need to cover that hole or air will be admitted into the inlet manifold at certain times of EGR operation.
Whether this would upset your A/F ratio at those times ???
Cheers

If that is true, then yes, your A/F's will be whack and your car probably wont start (as air is entering after the MAF)

Go to the wreckers and find a pre EGR plenum off a TF or something and it will have a plate on it covering up the hole, it will be held on with two 12mm bolts. They shouldn't charge you much for it if anything, fit the plate to your plenum and problem solved.
Cheers Luke

Thanks mate. I heard i think commodore sump plugs fit these aswell.
Oh yeah forgot to mention the extractors definatly made a difference the mid to top end performance is so much clearer and better love it

commodore sump plug was used to plug up the hole on the extractors, not the intake port as there is no thread. use need the blanking plate from a 6g72 plenum.
the car will start, but it wont run right, and rev high on idle.
Got a plate for the car witch was all good. But ive got a new problem ive got a buzzing noise coming from my extractors somewere has anyone expierienced this??
Flexpipe?
Not shore. Does this usually happen? Theres no leaks coming from the gaskets. I thought at the start it was my exhaust gone really tiny and needed another reso. But its coming from the extractors area.

are you using the original engine pipe ( y joiner)? it may be a case that the extra flow has cause the diverter to come lose .. is it a metalic sound?
Found wat my problem is. http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34887&highlight=rpw+race+extractors How do i fix this?
