My TS 2.6 4cyl Auto has the opposite to most issues I have read about. I start up and it idles fine, around 850. After a drive of about 40km, the idle is up to 1300 to 1500. If I turn off and wait a moment or two, re start it is back to normal idle. It does this whether on petrol or LPG, so does anyone have any clues on this please??

Hey Beachy,
Check your connection harness to the TPS and ISC. It might be that they are way dirty or corroded and the TS ECU is compensating the idle at start up and once the engine gets really warm/hot the pins on the TPS or ISC electrical connector are loosing contact. This wont cost you anything to check. Perhaps if you have a multimeter you can test the pins of the TPS and ISC also will your at it. See the workshop manual, there is a link on here some where, just search for it.
Failing that perhaps there is a broken seal in your Air intake which only opens up when the car is warm/hot when the plastic expands? Also might want to check the MAF sensor connected to the Air filter enclosure and Air intake piping, Maybe a loose connection to the sensor unit also. Again costs nothing to check.
ISC, TPS and MAF sensor unit are all easily replaced items if find a local wrecker to pull them out of.
Hope you get this one sorted.

One other thing i could have asked.
Are you getting the engine warning lamp come on when your TS is idling high like this?
If so then you could pull the fault codes from the ECU with an analogue multimeter connected to the diagnostic pins (found on the right hand side of the drivers footwell, just next to the small square fuse box thingy.
Anyway i am sure once you find whats causing this there is plenty of members here willing to help resolve it as its very likely someone here has had the problem or similar before.

Finally got a lot sorted out. I started by replacing the throttle body with one from my old motor, it had TPS and ISC on it. This fixed the problem immediately, however I noticed some swelling of the heater hoses at the connection points :(.
This started a long winded process of replacing damn near every hose in and around the intake manifold. No easy task normally, now harder with LPG pipe work in there. Anyhow, all done and I decide to clean the waterpump outlet as it is causing hose to swell, what a mistake to make ;) took pump out and the seal was in four pieces, no alloy left where the seal should be and no spare pump. Then it decides to rain up here and all I had was me motorbike, sod that. Pump replaced, cooling system flushed, new coolant and all because the idle was ratty :woot:, which is purrrfect now.
Must have been one or the other TPS or ISC, don't care it works an I am happy. Thanks for the info Dougal on dirty connections, I gave them the good ol clean up too. They were a bit blueish and corroded looking.
