Hey guys, i have a 98' TE Magna sports and i am looking at putting an exhaust on it. Looking at a cannon with a tip, something like

or

And as i have a TE magna, the exhaust i have on at the moment, is stock and it dumps down. If i was to put a cannon like above on it, would i have to make a cut out for the exhuast or what?
As you may have read, i dont know too much about cars.
Thanks guys

You don't have to make a cut out for a cannon. If you go to an exhaust shop they'll drop the cannon if need be.

I'm guessing you're looking for sound? The sports exhaust is more than fine for a stock Magna so there's no need to change it if you were looking for performance.

Word of warning though, a cannon on an auto car drones like no tomorrow. I just put on a Perry rear muffler and it drones a bit, probably just the right amount but I wouldn't want a cannon on there.

Neither of the mufflers that you have given a link to are cannons, though both would be good mufflers. In saying that you would probably want to get a straight through muffler or hotdog put in the system as both of those mufflers are quite small. The noise would be unbearable not to mention illegal. As mentioned above No you would not need to cut anything from your bumper to have it fitted, exhaust shop will fit the muffler to your car not the other way around. lol

Hey chaddaz27,

I have a Magnaflow Sports Muffler 8" x 5" x 14" long 2 1/4" inlet
Which was the first the link you attached.

Whilst i agree with Luke mentioning above about the size of the muffler being small, but i dont find the noise being unbearable.
On my 2nd gen TR 4cyl it produces a rich deep note but is not too loud under normal driving conditions.
Could be because i drive fairly conservatively and because my 2nd gen is only a 4cyl auto.

Installation was really not difficult as the I just got the right sized rubber hangers for the muffler to sit nicely where the old Walker muffler sat. easy...

Thanks guys, this is very helpful.
Im still not too sure what to do.
I don't really like the look of the stock walker muffler, but then again, i don't a huge exhaust that makes me look like a tool, I'm looking for sound more than anything.
If its any help, i have a tiptronic and i usually use it in tip mode.
Cheers guys

Im currently running a muffler the same as Dougal in my v6 pacemaker extractors down to a 3" flex and a 3" high flow cat back down to a 2.5" pipe with a magnaflow resonator then into the 3" high flow straight through magnaflow muffler finished with a twin 2.5" dump. Before i put the resonator on it sounded like a tractor on steroids now it sounds deep, sporty and aggressive with no rasp to the note at all.

Hey Luke,

Your setup is very similar what i'm working on at the moment, to suit a 45G4 4cyl engine.
More for performance but sound is important as with the setup as it is at present there is a slight rasp when i accelerate sharply at over 40-60kph.
I haven't got a drone sound happening but that might be due to POD filter and CAI installed. Unsure exactly.

On a side note. I see your part of the central coast division. I didn't think there still was one?
In my few recent trips upto Woy Woy last week i can see plenty of well kept and some not so well kept Magna's up there.

Dougal,

If you put a resonator in toward the rear of the car it will eliminate that rasp without taking away from performance as the exhaust gasses have cooled down quite a bit by then. As you probably already know the key to performance is to give the gasses room to move up near the engine while they are hot.

Get the Magnaflow muffler, replace rear muffler with that one, remove centre muffler, replace with hot dog reso, see if it's too loud for you.

If you find it's too droney, and it will be droney to some degree, then put on another resonator or put the centre muffler back on.

I think you'll learn to live with the drone though.

FYI the stock Magna exhaust set up goes like this:

Headers - Cat Convertor - Centre Muffler - Resonator - Rear Muffler.

You should be replacing............^............................ ..........^.........for sound.

You won't be seeing any increased performance as a result though, so it'll be about 350 or 400 bucks for an exhaust note.

Some would say it's not worth it, I would disagree.

Also don't buy the Magnaflow from that site, you can easily find cheaper on eBay.
