Sometimes when trying to start my TJ all it does is just continue to wind over (no matter how many times I try) however if I turn the key to the lock position and then try to start, it will. Has anyone come across this before ? solution would be appreciated, thanks.

That's possibly bad communication between the key and the immobiliser built into the ignition barrel. Next time, take the key right out and then reinsert, if that fixes it you know its the immobiliiser. If you have another key on the same bunch of keys with a chip in it that can also affect it. Try your key by itself.
Search this forum, some threads about it and how to fix the problem.

sounds immobiliser related to me, this fix is for stalling but has to do with the immobiliser so its worth a crack...

I would love to know the cause of this on TE/KE/TF Magnas, as they don't have a BEM - seperate immobiliser perhaps? My Verada will sometimes do it, and the TF will always do it.
If I leave the TF for a month, it will start first go then stall 1-2 seconds later. Any attempts to start after that dont work, cranks but nothing else. Can anyone explain the possible immobiliser components of earlier Gen 3 Magnas, even via PM, as this is doing my head in. I have been under the dash, wobbled, unplugged/replugged and nothing. Come back in a week and wham, starts first go.

Never had any problems on my old TE. Only time it didn't start was when the battery died. I've got a TJ now so fingers crossed.
