Hey
So being that I have no licence I haven't moved my VRX since the 22nd of september. The car desperately needs the timing belt changed (it's at 225,000km) and I've been putting some cash aside to get that done which should be in the next few weeks. Im quite concerned that Im gunna start it up and the engine is just gunna snap belts and bend valves so just asking about things I should do to make sure that the first start up is as un-traumatic as possible.
I had intended to do
-Oil Change
-Oil Filter
-Transmission Fluid
-Fresh fuel (it currently has sweet F.A. in there)
Any advice on if this is all or anything else I should do would be appreciated.

You would not have any more issue in starting it as you would if you drove it yesterday, I get cars from auctions often which have been sitting around for months or longer due to disputes between owners and insurance companies and some of the time they have been listed as pending for months on the auction listing before they go up, this is after the usual 8 - 12 week wait from the time of the accident. These I check the oil leven and fire the buggers up
If your belt was going to break, it would break regardless of it having been sitting around. No different to an engine in storage from a wreckers being put into a car, some of these sit around for years
The timing belt is covered thus no light is getting to it, I owuld either way get the best done asap but other than that you should be fine

yeah not sure how an oil change would prevent the belt from snapping?
if your that parranoid about it get a mobile mechanic to do it.

I'm assuming at 225,000 Km its the car's second belt. It won't snap.

Cheers anyway for peoples input. It's my pride and joy so am a bit pedantic about everything concerning it. Were it any other car I'd have started that ****er up without a second though... but it aint, so I ask.
Yea yea lol just funds had been short but now due to not having to buy petrol and new VR-X government sponsorship in the form of centrelink means I can easily save healthy amounts to put towards the car.
Yea haven't seen you TJ since everyone met up at homebush for the 'indian thing'. Licence comes back on Dec 22nd. Am planning to cruise down to melbourne on 24th Jan so hopin to find some people lookin to come down with. I'll be meetin up with mates but heaps keen to meet the Vic AMC people while there.

Get a quote from a couple different mobile mechanics. That way you dont have to start it, they come to you, do the job, then leave. Its win win :)
Most of them aren't any dearer either, as they dont have the overheads that a workshop does like rents etc

You talkin about the timing belt? I can do all the oil changed etc easy but yea timing belt is well above me.
Hadn't thought of gettin mobile mech to do it. Was just gunna take it to the local mitsubishi dealer shit to get it done. Would take it to my normal mechanic but I'd just rather give it to someone who deals with mitsu all the time.

mitsu will charge you at least double what anyone else would, and most likely do a worse job. they only have trainee's doing the work, and one qualified mech to look over about a dozen of them. i wouldnt take my car to a dealership service centre if you paid me to.
The best mechanics are the ones who own their own business, do their own stuff, answer the phone etc. Its great being able to actually talk to the person who will be working on the car.
