Im guessing yours is a KE Verada? If you go to the dealer and ask for a replacement remote.. they should give you the one with boot release, as the mechanism is already installed!

;-) Suf, always a plethora of knowledge, even though you don't drive.

And me - Well I drive, usually, when I haven't smashed up the wheels on round-a-bouts. I know just as much as the next tyre-kicker .. ie: nothing!

Could be tricky getting one however, they are security coded and the like. And if you happen to have some kind of aftermarket security system.. (the only reason i can think of for why you don't have the button, and i don't know why you would want to install an aftermarket one on a verada ke/kf)... well it would be kinda interesting. The standard one has a one small button and two other buttons. One locks, one unlocks and the other releases the boot. If you have an aftermarket jobbie, slap the previous owner, as the verada has two immobilisers as standard. (Will verify with gregory's manual when ifinally get home if you like..)

Generally, what I have found out is this:

If a car comes with a remote then it will unlock all four doors and the immobiliser. If the car does not have central locking, then it will unlock drivers door and de-immobilise engine. To make the car central locking, then a central locking kit (aftermarket) would need to be installed and wired into the standard door lock for the drivers side doors. Therefore, I would not suggest buying another remote, as the actual mechanism in all four/five doors would not be there for the remote to work with in any case.

Think about it...why would mitsu give a remote for engine immoblise and/or 1 door lock if the facility remained on all four/five doors already...Does'nt make much sense does it? You can argue that its marketing to force people to buy the next model up, but if mitsu had already invested in the materials to make it realistic, would'nt they market it as a selling point?? Seems pointless to sell thousands of models with the ability to centrally lock all four/five doors without using it, as I am sure you realise, to make a door lock itself you need to install a remotely activated motor to the door lock which adds significant expense. Therefore, to invest this sort of money would be hopeless...then again where mitsu are concerned, this may not be totally unfeasible.....

In summary, sticking my neck on the line. If your car does not currently have central locking, then you will need to invest in an aftermarket central locking kit to make it happen. Otherwise, forget the remote from mitsu as it will only work on whats already there. Contact a good sparky who can wire up all your existing functions and new functions to an aftermarket remote. Just bear in mind also, whilst what I have said may not make total sense, that features in cars have come a long way in a very short time. Nowadays, it is standard to have central lock, airbags & immobilise in all cars that are sold, back when your verada and my TH exec were sold it was optional and that was only 3-4 years. A very short time therefore, you may think you have the ability to perform general functions in your car (such as central lock) when in fact you do not. This needs to be considered before applying money to thing such as remotes which will not suit your vehicle in standard form.
