I've been looking at updating my wheels on my 02 vrx and i was thinking of these:
http://www.rotaaustralia.com.au/rota-grid-18x85-5x120-et35-chrome-set-of-4-wheels_p1047014.htm
I would would get them in bronze, the sizing is 18 x 8.5 with i think a 48+ offset?????
Has anybody had wheels 8.5s on a TJ? and offset of 48?
I presume the guards could need rolled? is this even possible on a vrx?
any comments and help would be appreciated.
Just so you know, 8.5" wide won't be legal. FWD / AWD are limited to 8" wide or 1" wider than the tyre placard says, whichever is smallest.
I'm pretty sure the offset is too far off as well and will cause something to rub. Do a search on the forums as this is a frequent topic of new members - I think the correct offset you want is +36 to +40.
Your choice of tyres will be important too.
hope this helps a bit.
Graham.

Ok thanks, that shits me cause they dont come in under 8.5.
Oh well thank god vrx stockies hold their own, cause they'll be staying on for a while.

Mate those rims won't fit anyway, 5x120 is a Commodore stud pattern, you're looking at 5x114.3 if you want to fit a Magna ;)
You're unlikely to be defected for rim width, provided that they sit inside the guards. A risk you may choose to take.
An offset of +48 is unlikely to fit. Most people with 8-8.5" rims run rims in the +35 to +42 bracket. Factory VR-X rims are 7" and +46 so 8.5" and +48 isn't looking good.
You can roll the guards on the VR-X but the flares will need to be trimmed. My rims and suspension are pretty modest on my VR-X (Lows on a 8" wide rim) but the rims scraped on the flares pretty hardcore even on mildly undulating road. If you look at your flares, they're secured at the bottom of each end of the flare, so you can trim the top part away to clear your wheels.
To me the biggest risk of "illegal" wheels or other mods is not getting a defect, it's what might happen if I was involved in a serious accident and inspectors found mods that weren't certified as being safe.

+48 8.5" will rub the inner guards like a bastard with 235s or 245s
