View Full Version : Lowering

Hey guys,
I want to get my TF lowered (Kings through Mal = cheap ).
But I know that the previous owner got it lowered due to it looking way lower than stock magas I have parked next to. The problem is I don't know what springs they put on, so I'm not sure how much of a drop I will get when I put my new springs on. I want my wheels to be just tucking underneath the guards.
I have 17" wheels on at the moment and intend on keeping them.
Pics to show ride height:

What springs do you think I would need to achieve the drop I want?
Help would be great as I really want to buy these new springs!
Thanks.

No off the shelf spring for Magnas will allow you to tuck rim.
Either you can get a set of springs compressed, get a custom set made, or you can go coilovers.

Ksport make coilovers for Magnas. Philcom Rally sold them.

Have a look at the TJ VRX wrecking thead mate, I still have the SL from that car, rears appear to have been compressed as the back sat quite low as well, there are a few pics of the car before it came apart

Thanks for the input. Looks like it'll be superlows. Will most likely get them through Mal on Friday when I take my car there (heater core leak :().
Just wondering also:
How much would I be looking at to get spring compressed? and where can you get it done?

Don't get me wrong, with Lows and a car full of stuff I can nearly get my rears to tuck.... and damn it looks good lol Getting it to look like that on a day-in day-out basis though is another story.
To the OP, it's probably worth having a dig through MGNTZM (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64264)'s Members Machine thread, as I imagine that's the kind of ride height you're after.

Yep that's the height! I'm going to have a chat with Mal on Friday and get his opinion once he sees it in flesh. Will probably be the safest bet :D

What are you doing with your springs when you swap them out? I might be keen to buy them off you. I just want to make my TJ not look like a hovercraft!

Haha. I'll let you know when I put them in if I decide to sell mine or not, I'll have to get Mal to check the condition of them. But if I put the new ones in and don't see myself swapping back to old ones, I'll let you know and we can work something out.
Postage may be an issue though :D

E-go courriers would be the easiest option for freight. Let me know how you go with Mal and we can discuss further then.
Standard ride height sucks!

Springs are springs - they will be fine.
As for compressing, they still keep the standard spring rate so you need to start off with a stiffer spring to start with. Alot of people will advise against compressing but i've had it done to both my cars and it's fantastic to achieve that look and stance your after, which no off the shelf spring can deliver.
Talk to the suspension centre in east keilor who have done all my work compressing work aswell as MGNTZM's and a few others off here not to mention a few of my mates, mention your a mate of mine and they should knock a few bob off for ya to
