Search of forums might be your best bet - I jumped from 2nd gens into TJ-era.

There have been old threads where immobiliser antenna around ign key has a poor loom connector down the steering column (wires on its way to ECU)..... and simple clean or even solder wires instead of plugs was the fix. Symptoms were - I think - cranking and maybe firing, but rapid shut-down.

Another possibility is the crank-angle sensor, if this fails or is damaged, car will not even fire up.

The changes from TE-TF thru to TH and later are not well-understood by me. There is a "Workshop Manual Thread" with off-site links to PDF files of the GENUINE Mitsubishi Workshop Manuals for TH-TJ and TL-TW series cars. These are an awesome resource - you download the PDF and save it on your 'pooter - can use it at your leisure offline. From memory, the download is an ISO (disc image) file, you have to install to your hard-drive.

Sadly there is no TE-TF version of the Workshop Manual file, but the vast majority of the TH version will assist you in countless ways with a TE or TF.

EDIT: The PDF Workshop Manuals have Troubleshooting sections and diagnostic "flowcharts" which suggest the easy common causes to check first, and then trace you thru the less-likely causes.

If it was the immobiliser, it shouldn't have spark and injectors firing....you don't however mention fuel supply and whether you can hear the fuel pump prime or run so I'd suggest you check the fuel pump and the filter. Also does the car try to start or does it just crank with absolutely no sign of it firing?

if it is the immob, the check engine light will be on, and if it was running, then stalled, it is unlikely to be the case. check the crank angle sensor wire (runs up to the drivers side of the intake plenum) make sure its not broken for a start.

Crank Angle Sensor wire runs up the timing covers at the "front" (Drivers Side) of the engine, as far as I know.

Injectors wouldnt fire if there is no valid crank signal, if the ECU doesn't know where the crank is, it doesn't know when to open the injectors for. So O doubt it's the CAS. I'd be checking the fuel pump first!

hey!
Mine is on the opposite side of Zeros! but mine has an aircon condensor too. Zeroes has no aircon??
Man,
I regret not taking the bar off and fitting it myself and driving there to get the hoses done.
The guys put it in without even taking the front bar off.

No i get nothing as far as the car wanting to start my friend had it running them it stoped and now nothing it will turn over and ive cheaked all the basics and they are running even put a timing light on number one lead the timing is fine the injectors seem to be pulsing as i used a multimeter to cheak them the fuel pump is running and supplying pressure i have touched nearly every base i can think of but the car does not even try to fire

the car does crank over but with no sign of firing what so ever but it has spark it has pulse at the injectors the timing is spot on fuel isnt the issue as for as the pump is concerned so it has me stumped it was mentioned in another post for me if it was the immobiliser it wouldnt have spark well thats not the case it does spark too

I thank you all for your input but as yet all that has been mentioned has been cheaked i even did a compression test and that cheaked out fine too

You have obviously missed something important, otherwise the car would start. Go back to square one and check everything.

Davo69, this would not be a white TE by anychance would it?

What area are you located in, you are welcome to get it towed to my place to be checked

If the car has fuel spark and compression and all of these are in the right place and right time, is not poss for the car not to start. Contaminated fuel perhaps, how did you check fuel pressure, timing etc etc

could it possibly be a blocked fuel filter? or the battery? is there fuel in the tank?

Was it fuel pressure?
