I have a Mitsubishi GTO twin turbo, and a complete spare leftover engine for it. I also have a KS XI verada. I know the engine will drop straight in, but what i want to know is will the standard auto gearbox in the verada cope with the power. I dont want to boost it past stock, i just want to use it as a daily. The GTO is manual and has all the extra power for the weekend. The gearbox is in good condition, the verada has only done 190,000 and still drives fine.

I might even run the verada 1-2 psi lower then stock boost. Stock boost is pretty fun on the GTOs because you get to enjoy the torque. Having said that, my GTO its always on 14psi for some neck snapping fun!

Hey mate. It will drop in but youll need a modified wiring loom to deal with the different ignition. I personally dont think it will cope for long. My diamante is running the na version and i wouldnt wanna be pushing more through it without strengthening the automatic. Heaps of people in the usa run 6g72 dohc tt's with the auto fwd and yeah they dont last long!! Id be swapping it for a manual anyday. Youll also need a fmic and new pipe kit as the stock smics wont fit. Keep us up to date!!

so what your saying is if i want to keep the standard transmission, i should probably start collecting them and be prepared to change them every few weeks?

If i do change it to a manual, will the standard verada/magna manual gearbox with a heavy duty clutch do? i just dont want to have to stuff around fitting a different gearbox in and getting things like driveshafts modified.

Thanks for you help too! Nice to find people with good knowledge of these cars!

I think the Exedy HD should be up to it. That's what I'm running with a NA 3.5L giving it at least 350nm. And it's coped FINE so far.
No need to modify driveshafts and whatknot, all a drop in procedure.
And yeah if you were gonna keep it a standard auto, I'd grab another one or two when your at pick a part. So far I've paid $120 and come back with two complete manual V6 gearboxes :D one with only 150K on it! winnar....anyway.....like I said the 3000GT TT conversion isn't as straight forward as just dropping it in. IC piping will be one of the biggest headaches and also the ignition problem, not sure if you could run an aftermarket ignition system (MSD?) or you'd go to the effort of hunting down a spare 3000GT loom to run.....
