Hi everyone, i've searched through the various posts relating to this but getting no clear answer.
My TJ has a cargo barrier fitted just behind the front seats. I want it behind the back seats but after taking all the rear trims out and pulling the roof lining back i cant find any mounting points. Do these have to be drilled out or what?
Cheers in advance people.
Scott.

Car is in pieces at the minute but I'll see if I can picture the front mounting points, just forward of the rear grap handles

The rear mounted one -I'm guessing, haven't actually seen one - mounts to the same points but with long metal straps. Don't start drilling holes!

My rear mounted on had holes drilled through to the wheel arches, 2 on each side

You might want to check ADR rules to see if mounting it like that is legit.

I have seen a few cargo barriers in magna wagons, all have been bolted to the wheel arches with no bolts at the top.

It may be worth buying a new one designed to fit behind the rear seat.

yeah If you like I can take a pic of where mine was bolted and post. I've taken it out but the holes are still there obviously

Ok. Feel stupid now. They were covered by stickers:

Hi. I have just bought a second hand cargo barrier from ebay for my 1998 TF and I have got a few questions.

1. I presume that I will need to buy a fitting kit from either a Milford stockist or Mitsubishi dealership as the barrier only came with the quikflik knobs at the top and the hooks at the bottom? Do the hooks at the bottom fit into some kind of metal strap/bracket which is then bolted on the floor?

2. Can anyone give me some kind of measurements for the location of the top anchorages. I dont want to pull off the headlining material, but instead I am thinking that I could bore a hole through it to reach the inbuilt anchorages in the inner body.

Any feedback would be much appreciated, thanks

Mine had holes in the floor just forward of the tiedown hooks. Carpet has to be cut to access them. Dont know if they are a standard fitment or part of a fitting kit?

Yeah, my TF has got holes in the floor next to the tie down hooks and hidden by the carpet as you say . So I am guesssing that these are used to bolt in a strap or bracket which the barrier hooks go into?

Check if the holes are threaded cos the barrier screws in. If you just have plain holes then there must be part of a fitting kit that bolts up

I checked the holes and they are threaded but what I dont understand is that the bottom of my cargo barrier just has two hooks on the underside and no bolts although these hooks do line up with the bolt holes you mentioned.

Thats why I wondered if there must be some kind of metal strip/plate where one end of the plate bolts into these floor holes and the other end has a slot where the cargo barrier hooks go in.

It also sounds like there may be more than one type of cargo barrier and different fitting methods for each one.

Mine is Milford one for 3rd gen (twist in clips at the top, and screw in bolts at the botom)

Mine is also a Milford one for 3rd gen but sounds like it has a different fitting mechanism at the bottom of the barrier.

I think I will probably just have to bite the bullet and go out and order a fitting kit through the nearest Milford stockist quoting the part number on the barrier.

I have been in touch with them and they are quoting a price of $90-100 just for the parts which is double the amount I paid for the barrier itself!

Out of interest, would you happen to know the location on the rear headlining where the twist in clips go in as it sounds like our connections are the same for the top of the cargo barrier. I would like to be able to put a hole in the headlining to access the correct anchorages there without having to pull the headlining off.

When I get a chance I'll measure it up

OK, if you pull the rear grab handle down and measure from the end of where its mounted towards the back of the car the cargo barrier mount is 530mm away. And its 20mm up from the top of the plastic window surround trim.

Sounds complicated but i've got pics, just cant upload em from work, so will get em up asap.

Cheers

Thanks heaps for the measurements.

I am going to attempt to install the barrier this weekend and I will use your measurements to put the hole in the headlining.

I will use the golden rule - measure twice cut once!

Look forward to seeing pics - I took some pics of my barrier to let you see the arrangment at the bottom but I am still trying to figure out how to post them.

Cheers

Many thanks Scooter. On Saturday, I cut the holes in the headlining using the measurements and photos that you kindly provided which revealed the anchorages exactly where you said they'd be.

I put the barrier in using the grey lock knob connections at the top of the barrier (which are identical to yours) and it fits perfectly. The holes that I cut are pretty small and cant be seen when the barrier is connected - thanks to your accurate measurements.

I now just have to sort the bottom fittings which I think I can get from the fitting kit that Milford sells via a local stockist.

Your fitting arrangement at the bottom of the barrier looks different to mine - I have a metal hook welded directly underneath the barrier frame which slots in to a floor mount plate which I think is then mounted into the boot floor using the threaded hole which yours connects into.

I also sprayed the barrier with some all in one primer/gloss rust treatment paint. I bought the barrier second hand and it had some flaking paint and light surface rust so I took a wire brush to it and painted it up so it looks like new!

Thanks again

Glad to help mate. It was a mammoth task stripping all the rear trims to find the holes!
