Hi guys, I am a newcomer to this forum, so give a little leniency haha. I bought my KF EI 97 Verada about half a year ago now. It only had one genuine key with it, and as I didn't want to be only using a key 100% of the time, I looked into getting a remote. I called a few dealers etc, but it was too much of a hassle. Turns out my local locksmith sold genuine remotes, and you just program them yourself. I did so, and the programming went well etc etc etc. About a week after having (and using) the remote, the battery would die whilst the car was off and locked, leaving me to come and be extremely surprised when I felt like going anywhere haha. I am pretty sure it isn't the battery, as I replaced it when I bought the car, but I have heard it has happened to others, and after looking and no finding, I thought I'd ask the pros. Can you guys help me?
Cheers

Not sure if the TF remote suffers from this, but my TJ remote does. When you replace the battery you need to make sure the battery holder is firmly connected to the circuit board, mine is loose and every now and then will lose memory, there is a fix (need to solder it back on) but I haven't been bothered.
The one way to test would be to see if the remote will reprogram. If it does, then its losing its memory and needs to be fixed. If it doesn't might have been a dud battery.

Thanks for the reply, but I think perhaps I wasn't clear enough. It kills my car's battery, not the remote's. The remote works fine, just after using it, the battery will sooner or later just conk out once you park. And the worst part is, that its not specific, it could be an hour or a day after, but it will always die.

Get a new battery for the car. Or hide that silly remote in a dark cupboard for a while and see if the problem goes away. There might be a problem with the car keeping the lock mechanism energised, thus flattening the battery. You would need to open the driver's door and see if the lock solenoid still has power going to it when you lock it. And do yourself a favour, get another key.

The car battery is only a few months old, and yeah haha at the moment the remote only gathering dust. I got 2 spares cut, but due to a cagey lock on my driver's side, you have to open the car from the passenger side -_- as only the original works on that lock, and once the immobilizer chip didn't kick in on the spare, and I got immobilized by my own car in a car park haha. And every time I try to get a legitimate key from a dealer, they just mess me around, and say they can't do it, or quote me then jack up the price when i get there.

There's your problem right there. The lock/unlock solenoid is probably the culprit, it probably has the occasional hissy fit where it stays energised. Strip the door down and have a look.

The battery in my remote has just gone flat recently (tj), how do you open the remote to change it?
I'd be getting the battery tested, don't be fooled into thinking it can't be the battery just because its near new, could well be faulty from manufacture.
If you want to be sure it's the remote causing a problem though remove the battery from the remote and use the key for a week, see if it makes a difference. Really shouldn't though because the receiver on the car should always be active regardless of whether you actually have a functioning remote to use or not.

Just pry it apart gently with a flat head.

You won't need to. The car is programmed to the remote, not the other way around. If your remote isn't working, check the connections for the battery are good. I ended up soldering one of the terminals as the connection was cracked.
