Hi my daughter has a 2001 lancer when it is hot the Tacho, Speedo, Temp and fuel gauges stop working I read a post some where else that said it was the dash computer. I have searched the web but cannot find anything about dash computers for a lancer. Does any one have any info they can share with me? Thanks heaps.

I think the electronics for the instruments are on the instrument cluster itself. Pull it out and have a look for obvious problems in the plugs and circuit traces on the circuit board. If its temperature related it is probably a bad contact somewhere on the back of the instrument cluster.

ive fixed too many of these... its a broken track on printed circuit board of instruments... best remedy is to run a bypass wire at the adjacent pads of the same track
also its a flexible plastic circuit board so i suggest using a temp controlled iron and flux

Finally got the time to have a proper look and found a broken track after a lot of testing. Thanks the_ash and all for helping me out, my daughter also thanks you all it has saved her money having to pay a mechanic to look at it.

Cheers

Mechanics these days don't look, they just replace. At your expense.

thats why if it is not a mechanical problem, people should take it to an auto sparky.... most of the time the mechanics will either balls up the job, replace parts until they get it right, or take it to an auto sparky who charges them and then they add a sizable mark up.... having said that there are some talented mechanics who can either fix it or know when to bow out
