ok, i know that there were heaps of questions on this issue- and more recently for a set of rims that i'm now keen on purchasing, but after using the search function i haven't been able to find anything on it...

i'm thinking about getting a set of CJ Lancer VR-X 18's for my car, right now they're being sold with rubber with the profile of 215/45R18 89W. the rolling diameter should be okay (if anything it'll read slower), but i'm more concerned about the load wight for the tyres. will these be fine to be fitted on my 'rada? or should i get tyres that have a higher load rating?

The load ratings for magnas / veradas have always been overkill but even then im not sure how much you could go below the recommended without issues.

215/45R18 at 650.49mm in OD is 13.72mm smaller the your OEM OD of 664.21mm. That is almost 2.1% difference. There'll also be a bigger gap between the tyres and the arches. As for load ratings, Mitsu did over specify. However, 89 at 580kg is a lot lower than 95 at 690kg. Also remember that tyres aren't the only ones with load ratings. Wheels have load ratings as well. All I can say is you are risking your insurer not paying a cent and worst, you'll be void of insurance if the tyres and wheels were deemed responsible for the accident. I personally won't go below 92 load rating if I was going to risk voiding my insurance and defects.

i have been looking at some new tyres just in case this was an issue and i've come with another question: i've seen most people that's fitted the Lancer VR-X rims are going to a 235/40 profile, i'm wondering why no one went for a 225/45 profile?

Maybe they did not have 16" wheels as OEM. 205/65R15 is only just over 2mm bigger in OD then 235/40R18. Whereas, 215/60r16 is only 5mm bigger than 225/45R18. Again, 225/45 gets you 95+ load rating and 235/40 dont only you pay extra. I'm running 225/45R18 on 18x8.
