it's up to you in the end, but i suggest against bright colours, it can get quite bad when the glare hits the windscreen. that's just my opinion though, I know a lot of show cars have really bright interiors. but not practicle.

i was originally thinking of spraying it silver like in the ralliart's, but thought white might be a good idea...
could i use any old paint? or anything anyone could suggest, brand names etc...

I used "Power plus" satellite silver touch up spray. Nice matt finish, similar to new Magnas.
3 coats of K&H plastic primer first, then 2-3 of paint.

I used 'Power Plus', $15 for the can
I did my consoles in Metallic Cyan Blue
And i did the door inserts the same sorta blue
Its cheap, and if done right, looks really nice!
Definitely do it

Can someone suggest a good way to rub back the console in preparation of painting? My console was painted either at the factory or by the previous owner, and while it still looks nice there are more bits on the dash I would like to paint the same. So, it is time to redo the whole thing to ensure the colour matches perfectly. Plus, there are some small scratches I would like to rub out. So, what's the best way to rub back the plastic?
Find out what "The Difference" used on his console and whatever you do don't use that :bowrofl:

Remember to use a grease & wax remover of some sort to get rid of any Armour-All etc. that may have been used. Clean them VERY thoroughly useing several rags, & never the same spot twice... otherwise ur likely to end up with orange peel look. Even the oil from ur hands can affect the final finish.

remove old paint from a console... i would say sand back if they did it properly u should be able to sand back to the primer sand it smooth re prime 1-2 coats then 3-4 coats of paint sand to smooth each time otherwise u will get orange peel (the smoother u can get it the better :D i got 1800 and 2000 grit sand paper here but i find a little toothpaste rubbed on it after the painting is sanded to smooth works nicely as its a mild abrasive) make sure u let each layer dry properly and u can clear coat but each time ive tried to clear coat a silver paint it turns grey on me? like it looses its shine and goes and ugly grey colour

Thanks mate. Toothpaste huh, I use toothpaste to take the scratches out of CDs, so yeah, good suggestion.
