Hey all,

There are so many different types of reverse camera's around, but I am looking for something that is small, subtle and VERY factory looking.

What type and where have people mounted their reverse cams (Pics please :))?

Thanks!

i haven't got one fitted (i do have one but its too chunky for my liking) but i have seen them fitted where the towbar should be, although you see the gap. But im interested in seeing what people post cause i'd love to get one also :)

Im now thinking about getting one rather small and mounting it up near the licence plate light, so it is mostly hidden.

If you get a nice small one you can drill a hole just above the number plate, and use a grommet to flush mount the camera. I have seen this done in a VX and you cant notice it.

This is the reversing camera on my silver VRX.

Can take some more pics later if interested.

The camera is a Viscom VS2105P colour 1/4" CCD.

Yes, very small, very subtle...

I'm hoping to go for something even more factory looking.

I noticed yours is a CCD. How are peoples experiences with CCD and CMOS reverse cameras?

OnkyTonk how much you lookin at spending? I was personally thinking an ebay job, something like THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/776-EONON-Rear-View-Waterproof-New-CMD-Reverse-Camera-/400167548435?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d2bd83613)

Although most on ebay are massive or they strap onto your numberplate, thus looking very aftermarket which I guess your not after (same here).

Anyone got any mounts that dont 'poke' out from the car? eg. you can only see the lens of the camera from outside the car?

PS - im just talking about camera, not the screen.

Yeah, something like that, but mounting it in the gap near the licence plate light, with just part of it poking out enough to see.

I have mounted mine with the body of the camera actually up in the gap with the licence plate light.

I have supplied a pic of this in a previous thread, but even a search couldn't dig it up. I will take a new pic when i get home. I used the licence plate light bolts to secure the camera and so I didnt have to drill any holes at all. It is completely waterproof as it has been on my car for about 3 years now with no problems.

I will get pics when I get home to sort it all out.

Very nice!

The camera I bought is a little different but I'm hoping to tuck it up even more, but we'll see how we go.

Thanks for the pics.

I saw this on Ebay, I'm not sure though if this will fit also on magna's as it is intended for Lancer.

Yeah, I saw this and did the measurements.

It should fit all the models with the 2 piece boot lid (TE/F/H) (KE/F/H). The holes are a little bit wider, but all other dimensions are correct. The mounting holes can just be redrilled - there is enough room for that.

However, the LED globes are built in, and if they ever die for any reason, they cannot be replaced. Also, you're pretty much stuck with the mounting angle it provides, you can't tilt it, or angle it left or right.

Its a nice, plugin idea, but not very practical if you ask me.

same way mcs_xi did, but hopefully not have so much of the actual camera showing, may even drill a hole between the two number plate lights, I'll wait and see where it fits when i get it :D

Installed my camera this afternoon after work.

Basically, I used a dremel and made the cutout for the number plate light a little wider, and used the existing light screw with the camera bracket.

Final result:

mine arrives tomoz, was just wondering where the "reverse light" cable is in the car? I need to wire a cable that comes out of the head unit (reverse signal cable) to a particular cable in the car, i assume this cable is the one that sets brake lights on/off. Where can this be located?

Also where did you guys get ACC power from in the boot for the camera? I have an amp, can I just piggy back off the 12V terminal on that? or is that dangerous?

The reverse cable is the positive wire that connects to the reverse globe. It is on a switch so when the reverse gear is selected the positive wire is powered, and the LCD should be activated.

Can this be accessed anywhere from the drivers footwell? or will i need to run the cable from around rear brake light to head unit?

Unless you can identify the wire via a repair manual i would just run it from the reverse lights.

had a quick look in the workshop manual, the cable comes out of the gearbox, but it doesnt say what colour it is. If anyone knows could they please let me know, so i dont have to run it from back of car.

Onkytonk, which one did you end up getting? (Brand, cost) I'm very interested in doing the same setup as you. Looks slick and clean.

This is the one I got: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150489393924&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_7809wt_1384

The quality of both the camera itself and the image are very good. I couldn't be happier.

The best place to pickup reverse signal is just below the headunit. The reverse signal wire runs from the gear box through the engine loom and into the cabin (dash loom) and past the ecu. It then runs past the junction block (drivers footwell) and to the rear down the drivers side loom.

No need to run the cable all the way to the reverse light at the rear, just locate the wire in the plug that joins the engine and dash loom (below your headunit).

I don't have the manual handy at the moment, so can't tell you the pin number or wire colour - I will check later at edit my post if I find it.

Aww, i wish you had posted that an hour earlier....i just installed mine then lol...

I just tapped into the wire near the drivers door (it was very easy access and not too fiddly and also saved me running wire to rear of car)

http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/8283/25112010.jpg (http://img811.imageshack.us/i/25112010.jpg/)

The cable colour is Red, with a blue trace (thin line) on it. This is the case for TL anyway, I assume its the same for other models.

Ive run the video cable to the boot, now for actually mounting the camera...the hard part :S Im gonna have to drill the bootlid (camera came with a drill connector the size of the camera). I was thinking between the two lights that light the number plate (previous owner has already made two tiny drill holes there). I'm not confident about drilling a hole in the metal of my car tho...Anyone wanna help? :P
