View Full Version : High klm 380
Hey all,
have to opportunity to buy a 380 platinum ed. with approx 220,000k's for around 8-9k
appears to have full service history and looks in good nick.
would this amount of k's put you off buying? how much life could be expected without major part replacement etc?

I wouldn't buy it.
For slightly more money you can get half the kilometres if you look hard enough.

Agree with Blackstar, if you shop around you should be able to pick up an ES or maybe even a Platinum with around 120k on the clock for under $10k.
With the one you are looking at add another $1,000 to the cost or try to get the seller to reduce the price by $1,000 if it hasn't had the second new timing belt done plus pulleys & tensioner.
Thanks for the replies guys.
Have only done a preliminary kind of search so far, but most low sub 100k seem to be priced around $13k on carsales etc.
Any heads up where to find cheaper alternatives? Auctions?

can not see an issue with 220k's personally if serviced given that the cabs in SA have a damn side more than that and are still good as well as many third gens out there with twice that and more.
Depends on money and also price of cars locally, not price of cars thousands of k's away

Here's a 2006 Series 2 ES in Qld with just under 120k on the clock going for $9,900:

One of the nicer colours too.

For me 220,00km is unbelievably way too high... I wouldn't buy a car that had anything close or over 200,000kms regardless of how great it is... unless your getting the car for like $3000 it just aint worth it when you can get one with far less kms for a lil more. Consider that my 2000 TJ VRX has just reached 225,000kms, this 380 has lived a lifetime already.

If you ring Eddy's wreckers in SA and ask for a 380 auto trans he'll tell you he can't get them quick enough for the cab drivers.
In a 380 cab 300,000k's is the magical mark.....
Won't be keeping mine anywhere near that.
here's one with 87,000 k's for $9900.....

One minor problem for the OP, it's in WA!
Thanks for all the advice guys.
Definately gonna keep searching for a lower milage option knowing this :)

Hey Fux tick all the cars with high milage off the list, we dont know how long they last yet, in the private market, BTW cars in aus average 16 to 25,000 a year. And put on an auto tranny cooler too.

200km's+ is typically when you see your wearable items, wear., mainly all your rubber items like boots, tyres, belts etc, it's more hassle for no real gain, there are a heap out there. with 220km on the clock I wouldnt pay more then $6K.

Where Blackstar reckons that the SA cabbie 380 autos give up the ghost at 300,000k, I wonder how many of those had regular proper ATF flushes and how many had transmission coolers added?

lol I might be tempted.... Actually I lied or forgot... I bought a '99 Hyundai excel once for $400 after I crashed my TF... that excel had 400,000km... but to back up my point it died 3 weeks later from engine seizure in the most catastrophic manner.

i don't think k's are everything. That 380 could be a better car then one with 100 k's on it, mines got relatively higher k's then most guys on here, not as high as 220 but it still goes like when i brought it with about 50 thousand on it, i keep the service up on mine and haven't had any problems, most of my driving is highway driving on cruise at 100 tho.
