Gday

I plan to put centeral locking and keyless entry into my 1stGen. I havent pulled the doors off or installed centeral locking before so Im in need of a few pointers...well actually a step by step guide would be spot on but any tips or things I should know would be good.

Iv decided to mount the boxes inside the car on the bar (dont know what to call it) inbetween the doors on the drivers side, right down the bottom where it cant be seen easily. I chose here because there is an amp under the seat, the engine bay is too crowded, and so is the dash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

yep ive done it got centrol lockin and the other day installed a alarm 4 it
alrite ive got a pic that might help u

remember to wind the window down 1st
1: take the 2 clips out and unscrew the 2 screws
2: take the handle surround out it just unclips and once its off ull notice a gold screw unscrew that
3: push the door trim away from the handel and get a screw driver and unclip that lil clip holding the handle on (watch out cos it will go flying off)
4: unscrew the bracket there
5: take the lock surround off and unscrew the lock
6: pull to unclip the lower carpeted bit then grab the top part and pull up and it should pull of

the hardest bit is getting the wires from in side the car then out then into the door a coat hanger helps 4 this
the other pics are of the back door and where i mounted the unit
ill get a better pic in the moring

thanx for that its alot of help so how long did it take you anyway and where did you put the main part where all the wires run to and how is that wired like does it wire into the fuse box or something

Thanx for the guide but the net was down and I couldnt look at it before I started, so I attacked it myself. The first door took ages (40mins) as I had no idea what was going on. In the end I got the panel off and didnt break anything...stabbed myself in the hand and got blood everywhere...some sprayed on the roof, but thats another story.
I managed to keep all of the clips from the handle, which is pretty good seeing as though they fly off at the speed of light.

I got all of the actuators and wiring done, but one problem. When I manually lock the front door everything locks for a moment and when I let go of the key/button they all unlock. I think its a prob with how the master actuator is set up. It was getting too dark to work so I'll pull that door panel off again tomorrow and check it out.
BTW anyone else got an idea of what could cause that problem just incase its not the actuator???

Ok because AM was down i was unable to get the better pics but here they are and the numbers are the same as above....

well it took me bout 1/2 to do 2 doors wired up so i had 2 door centrol lockin :P then finlly another weekend i did the back 2 so all up i should take a good full day!, but its defently worth it, it was my very 1st mod and now i have a alarm it goes great to have remote locking. it was funny cos i was so happy just to have 2 door centrol lockin then 4 door now remote :D :D
the main unit i put above from the foot rest across from the cluch but i found doing this i was VERY short on cable to get to the back drivers door so that wire is very tight atm so i sugest to put it where im planing to which is in the kick panel as theres enough room there. yer u need to get the postive from a full time 12v + from the fuse box, this was another thing that was hard because i unscrewed the fuse box and spend 30mins trying to twist it around so i could clamp the c/l + wire on to, the negtive wire all u do is find a metal bracket and drill a screw whole and screw the wire around the screw and thats it.

I another question was asked was:
where were can ya get a c/l kit from, i got my from strathfield for $38, but atm in SA i noticed there selling them for only $28 now, u can also get them from supercheap, dicksmith, jaycar etcetc. Iwouldnt pay more then $45 for a kit, also they all come with instructions helping you with where to put them and which wires are wot etc.

Just a note while i remeber, to save u a LOT of trouble get some masking tape and lay all the wires out on the ground and lable all of them so when u go to install them u cant get the wrong one as there all different lenghts ei. shortest one is for the drivers door and the longest is for the back passangers. as my m8 didnt do this and he had to pull the whole car to bits again cos he got a wire that wasnt long enough lol

its becuase one of your masters has been tightned to short so when u go to unlock one it the motor will unlock that door but because its on up to high the lock will bring it back down then the motor thinks u want to lock it < i hope that make sence i dont know any other way to put it i can draw a pic if need be

the other pic is the wire goes to the door
any more questions ask away

oh i forogot to add if u have a elante or an SE wit the door light, once u pull the lower 1/2 out ill notice a plug just unplug it from the light, or u can take the light cover off and unscrew the 2 gold screws then pull the unit out and unplug it there

 i think ive said enough now:cool:
hope that helps if not just ask

a year ago i got my keyless entry from marlows (now bought out by supercheap auto) and that one can hook up to central locking. Anyways now me and the gf both drive the car, and her remotes dead. I cant seem to fix it, not gonna replace it ($50) and dunno the company to try and get a warranty replacement, so im on ebay.... hmmm $70 for keyless entry, or $70 on a pokey lil alarm which can hook up to keyless.

Im gonna get the alarm :D

well people i have now put all four acutors in and let me tell you the front doors where ****en hard i must of drilled like 4 holes more than i had to cause i couldnt line it up and knowing the insurance companies i bet that makes my car unroadworthy those cheap pricks now i have to do the wireing thats gonna be fun any pointers before i start can i noticed a fuse for central locking already in the fuse box is it possible to just wire the red wire into the back of that central locking fuse and would it beable to get power from that and off course i will just wore the ground to metal is it possible to send the wires through the door without using a coathanger and does the wiring just go around the car like first the front drivers door then to the rear drivers door and then run wire under the back seat to the rear passenger door and then finnaly to the front passenger door is that the way
