ok guys one mechanic told me that my gearbox is blown and another said no the gearbox isnt blown you have just done a spline on the drive shaft on the drivers side of the car.
i will try explain the symptoms as well as i can .
it is the front drivers side
i was driving along and herd a bang then a sound that sounded like metal hitting metal
i pulled over checked the wheel bearing , it was fine and checked the strut it was fine aswell .
so pulled back onto the road and when i turn right it makes a loud clicking noise and the car jolts as if the brakes were grabbing only on that wheel.
i could drive fine in a straight line and while turning left but if i turned right slightly it would happen again.
so i drove in a straight line to get the car of the road and that was when i herd a loud grinding noise and the car slowly rolled to a stop , the engine was running fine but the car wouldnt move and when i applied throttle the noise got louder and faster but the car would stay stationary.
to describe the grinding noise better it sounded very similar to when you clip a playing card to a push bike wheel and it makes the clicking noise when you peddle.

thats as good as i can describe the symptoms and the problem
can anyone shed some light on this or have any idea what is happening and or broken?

Could just be a driveshaft that has given up the ghost. Only way to tell is to have a look under the car. Grab each driveshaft and try to move it about. If the driveshafts are ok then it will be a stripped hub spline, an internal problem in the gearbox, like a stripped spline or differential gears. Done many burnouts lately? lol

Mechanics are only guessing at this stage, if you give them the go ahead for the job to fix it, then they will get serious.

Sounds like either the inner shaft has quit or come off the intermediate shaft

never done any burnouts at all in the car never thrashed it only bought it 2 months ago , i grabbed the drive shaft and there was a tiny bit of play in them and i had the car jacked up and spun the wheel by hand i could feel the click going through the shaft , if it is a spline that has let go would there be any damage to the gearbox itself or could you just replace the shaft and drive away?

well if the intermediate shaft and on the lhs the inner joint are both turning when that wheel is spun then it is your diff

ok so the diff you reckon, would it make that grinding noise if you held your foot on the brake and put the car into gear? because thats what its doing now , i turn the car on and in nuetural and park its fine but as soon as you put it in to drive or reverse the revs drop drasticaly and the grinding starts then i put it back into park and it stops.... would the diff make that noise?

so you guys definatly think its the diff?

Whatever.

The box needs to come out for further investigation.

mechanic came around today , said it definatly isnt the gearbox but he also said that its the splines on the drive shaft so i swapped it out and still didnt fix the problem , so im guessing its the diff , will find out more tomorrow when i pull her apart
