Hi all,
I have a TE magna, not sure if it is worth it to get it back on the road to try and sell it. I also know I will get SFA for it in parts.
It needs rego and some repairs.
Repairs:
Steering rack - I already have this just need it installed
Has an oil leak at the front - assuming its the manifold gasket? (but I have NFI)
Front bearing in the engine needs replacing
Anyone have any idea of the costs of the above?
I really liked my beast would be a shame to scrap it. It starts first time everytime, which is pretty god for it's 220K k/m
Anyway, any input would be much appreciated.
Also willing to offer cash if someone has time/tools to do the above work.

Wait, front bearing in the engine? care to elaborate which type of bearing that is? as in, idle bearing, main bearing, crank bearing, alternator bearing...
Gaskets are an hour job to do with minimal tools and the rack is fairly straight forward.
very easy to do, are you going to DIY? you'll need a few tools if you wanna tackle that yourself.
All in all, if that's all it needs for RWC, that's nothing!

TBH I am not sure which bearing. I took it into the workshop to get a few things done a while back, all of a sudden there is this loud whirring noise from the front when I pick it up. Mech said something about a front bearing, cant remember any other details.
Not going to do it all myself, as I dont have the tools or the time at the moment.

Not to sure....
I know he did the timing belt and a few other things.....
I know he also changed my C.V joints, then a few weeks later my car was making one helluva racket when going over bumps/potholes. Then a little later I was replacing a tyre and saw that the front break caliper only had one bolt in it and was not even touching the disk!!!
Wont be taking it back there, thats for sure!
Not up Blue Mountains way, but thanks for the offer.

OptionZ: You have several.
(1) Fix the car, learn to do it yourself. At 220,000 km there is plenty of life left in it.
Level of motivation required: High.
Expense: Cheap.
(2) Take it to a mechanic every time it acts up.
Level of motivation required: Low.
Expense: Very.
(3) Sell the car to someone for who can do (1) above for $500.
Level of motivation required: Low.
Expense: Cheap, but a replacement will cost you.
(4) Put it on the street with a sign "Free, tow away."
Level of motivation required: Low.
Expense: Low.
Take your pick.

Dude, whereabouts do you live? I have done a metric shitload of work to my magna, and I may be able to give you a hand. If you were thinking about selling it, how much would you want for it?

I live in lane cove!
Would be keen to sell as is, save me the hassle of fixing it up, since I dont have a garage. Would have to be soon tho, otherwise I will have to register it before the 3 months limit is up and they make me take it over the pits!
Do you want to keep it. if you do fix it.
