Some help req'd guys..

I put on the 18x8's 350Z wheels on da magna last nite and they look great!! :P

The only problem is that the front left wheel is making a periodical metallic grinding noise
ie something is scraping at only one point on the circumference of the wheel

Yes, I was advised that the offsets for RWD wheels are not very suited to the FWD platform... the 18x8's have an offset of 30 and the Sports Factory wheels have an offset of 46
I was advised that i could get away with an offset of 33...

Now, my question is: What could be scraping against the wheel and why is it only happening for the front left wheel?

The wheels are the correct stud pattern: 5x114.3
There are big gaps between the guards at all sides...

I'm thinkn it has to be something on the caliper housing?

any help would be greatly appreciated

i dont think it would be the brakes as a 18 would have HUGE clearence for brakes. Is it when turning or all the time.

PS do you have the same rolling radius as before?

you put them on your self??
did you rest the weel on the arm when placing them in the weel arch?
Some times you can bent the Mettal surrounding over the Break disk... HAVE A Look and Bend it back... it happend to me when i hit some thing a while back.
:D
hope this helps

Going from +46 to +30 is a HUGE jump and definately not recommended, you will kill your wheel bearings and tie rod ends before long, plus probably rip the tyres up every time they hit your guards.

Such a jump is also illegal in most states as you are changing the track by 32mm (In Vic limit is 25mm).

As for the rubbing, possibly you haven't seated the wheel properly on the hub as scraping should be constant if due to insufficient clearance.

you might find that its actually the rubber rubbing up against the plastic insert between the bumper and arch.

Mine does it on mine.

I would say the grinding noise is either the wheel bearing or runout on the axle causing the brake disk to contact the pad. This will be because of the extra leverage being applied by the wider track.

Wow thanx for your feedback guys!

i did put them on myself, so i might have rested the wheel on the cover and bent it...
Hmmm

with regards to the damage, has it happened to anyone, or anyone they know or is it a theoretical issue?? I definitely don't want to seriously damage my baby...

When i asked the workshop (where i bought the wheel from) about the offsets, etc they like is it the right 5 stud pattern? then they checked the loading and then said yea no worries....

I'm taking it to them to have a look on the weekend.. the guy reckon a spacer will prolly fix the problem..
Is this legit? i thought spacers were illegal?? If i do get spacers, won't they make the lower offset problem even worse?
