Hey guys,
Picked up a 2001 Magna Sports last week, but the remote is completely shot. I opened it up and the buttons aren't even attached to the circuit board. I somehow doubt the dealer is willing to replace it for me for free so I'm investigating other options in the meantime.
Does anyone know the frequency of the Magna remotes? From what I can understand, I can just get any replacement remote (assuming it's not rolling code) and I can pair it to the car since it's the car that does the learning.
Mister Minit said a replacement remote was $130 :(

The dealer should have it at a price cheaper than Mister Minit - failing that, one off ebay would do just fine.

The TJ remotes (have a red and a green button) can be found on EBay frequently.
Some of the Qld guys might know of Wreckers who are likley to have these as well..... one that comes to mind, is also on EBay as "Lancercity" - the guy's name is Dave, and he seems a nice bloke (tho sometimes slow to anwers EBAY questions). He is somewhere at/near Caloundra, and every few months I keep kidding myself that I'll drive up and see what he's got!
Another tip, the battery holder is prone to break off the circuit board (or damage its connections) if these remotes are dropped too often - its an easy fix, if you happen to find one super-cheap due to broken battery holder.
I'd say repair the one you have - if it's just a matter of resoldering some components that have come away from the circuit board, it's not too hard, just like the battery holder repair a number of people have done.
If you don't know of anyone with the skills and a soldering iron, a general electronics repair place (TVs, videos, etc) hopefully could try to fix it for you and cheaply.

You should be able to buy them from Mitsubishi Dealers for about $75 maximum if you complain their price is too high.
Alternatively you can try your hand at fixing yours, this URL also has the process to re-code a new remote whether you fix the old one or buy a new one:

I'm fairly sure these code hop so you can't just get a generic one.

Yeah, the battery holder came off as well, but the main thing is that the buttons don't actually depress, so I'm thinking I definitely need a new one.
I'll ask how much from the dealer, otherwise I'll hunt around.
Cheers for the great replies, guys!

We get ours free from car yards in the area we pop a new battery in program it and right as rain. Most car yards will have a box with FOBS which they throw out from time to time because they didn't hand over the spare keys when they sold a car.
