hey guys
i found the problem in my magna , after pulling out both drive shafts which were fine it must be the diff .
can anyone give me advice on how to remove it? do you have to take the engine out?

Nope, engine stays in but the gearbox has to come out. Make sure you unbolt the torque converter before you move the gearbox off the engine.

Have a look at the open holes in the gearbox where the drive shafts were, you should be able to see the splines in the gears, which are part of the diff. If they are stripped out, there's your problem! Or it might be that the teeth (not visible through the hole) are broken.

The gearbox needs to opened up to get to the diff.

Have a look at the splines on both ends of the drive shafts and in the hubs for any damage. Make sure they are not the problem, it would be a shame to pull the gearbox apart if it is a stripped spline in the hub or one of the drive shafts. Have you taken out the half shaft? How are the splines on that?

that sounds complicated haha so how do you get the gearbox out without taking the engine out?

Did you check all the splines and hubs?

Need to get the car up on axle stands with enough room to slide the gearbox out from under the car.

Support sump on block of wood and jack nearest to the gearbox, remove air intake, gearbox mount, unplug all electrics and shift cable.

From underneath remove small cover, rotate drive plate to expose drive plate to torque converter bolts, push torque converter as far as possible towards the gearbox.

Undo all bolts holding the gearbox onto engine.

Support gearbox from above - I use rope and an engine hoist. Slide away from engine. You may need to get clearance by lowering the jack supporting the engine.

Lower gearbox to ground, slide from under the car. Be careful not to move the torque converter off the gearbox.

Pull gear box apart OR take to someone to dismantle OR replace with another one from wreckers.

if it is an auto, it not likely to be the diff, unless your were neutral bombing. is it auto or manual?

its an auto , ive just brought the car like 2 months ago and i dont do any silly things like burnouts or anything

ive checked both drive shafts at both ends and there all fine

checked both hubs they are also fine

the only thing i havnt checked is the half shaft.

i thought it might be the diff because when ever i put it in gear it grinds like a b***h.
but i will pull out the half shaft and check that and get back to you's.
