Greetings and salutations to all Magna owners

I am hoping that someone out there in The Magna World can help me with a problem that I have with my 1988 Magna Elite that I recently purchased. I sprayed the engine with degreaser using a compressor spray gun, after letting the degreaser soak in for about an hour I then washed this off with water using a garden hose. As the engine and engine bay were really dirty I did this process twice.

The car ran okay before I washed it and now has a problem with the engine having a regular miss as I drive along and gets really bad when I drive uphill. I have checked the distributor, ignition leads, coil, etc, for water and they are okay. I even went through the majority of the connectors in the engine bay and blew them out with compressed air just to make sure there was no water in them.

I was told that this problem can happen after washing the engine and can last for a few days, seeing that I washed the engine over two weeks ago with little improvement since then it would seem that I have a problem.

Thanks in advance for any help with this issue.

Regards

Have you taken the spark plugs out to check the plugs?

and while you were washing the car, was the engine hot? or cold? if hot, did you keep the engine running?

good luck,

spray a touch of crc or wd40 into the dizzy and lead connections etc, that will chase out any fine moisture

Have to agree with altera ... almost guranteed its moisture in the distributor. Take it off and give it a spray with WD40. :)

Yep, it'll prolly be in the distributor.

Also make sure to only degrease and hose a cold engine

Out of interest, what happens if you do it and the car is not cold ??

i doubt much would happen if the engine was still hot, unless u soaked it in freezing cold water?

Wost case scenario you can warp parts. You probably wont..but it's not a good idea to take the risk.

Also had this prob with my Cressida. Being a inline 6 (5M-GE), the spark plugs were housed in little cylinders on top of the head. I used to spray my engine bay and the water would sit in there. Even if i left the car running, it would stall. I ended up getting paper towel and soaking up the water (took ages! ) but yeah got it going again.
