View Full Version : C Pillar Map Lights.
I know there's a thread on this somewhere but I'll be damned if I can find it with our trustworthy search at the moment. I'm wiring in the C Pillar map lights, and I've found the factory plug people mention on the passenger side, but it's not providing any current to any of the 3 wires. I've checked the fuses which seem OK, and tried somewhat to trace it back (near impossible unless I rip the whole interior apart) but I can't find a reason for it not functioning.
Is there something I'm missing or need to do first to get power down to the rear?
Cheers.

No mate, you are not missing anything, the wire is there but it does not go to the cross over under the seats and over the RHS as you are missing the RHS loom for the map lights as the RHS loom on the models with the map lights are slightly different
SImple solution is to tap from the power wire from your boot light for power, grab a ground and then tap into each door switch and all is done and good
Turns out Mitsubishi skimped on the wiring in the later models, just checked the connectivity from the passenger loom to the dash under the passenger seat (Thanks to Alscall for telling me where to look!), wiring is non-existent on the dash loom side. :facepalm
Now I have the pleasure of running wiring front to rear, looking forward to it lol
Edit: Mal if I tap into the door switches either side will that run me into the wiring which triggers the lights on lock/unlock and when the front doors are opened?

That is correct, is the way I do most of the installs and also the way many peope who have the map lights ask me to mod theirs so when they unlock or open any door they all come on
You will find that with unlock they come on anyway where factory install, is only when a single rear door is opened they come on individually, when changed they come on with any door
There is no need to run wiring to the front, just use the power source from the boot light, is more than ample to run a couple more globes and will save you a heap of time and hassle
I've just run the wires to test, using boot light for the Battery 12v, the rear door button wire as the trigger, and earthed to a nearby bolt, and it's not functioning on lock/unlock, and it isn't running on the timer like the dome lights. I can turn the light on and off manually with the push button just fine, and it comes on when you open any door, but goes out as soon as you shut the door.
Seems inconsistent with what your telling me it should do?
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the trigger wire from the door button is a earth yeah? The only way I can figure the centre domes out is when you open a door it activates a 2nd earth, which completes the circuit and turns the light on, presumably running through the BEM to provide the timer and lock/unlock functions. The earth from the door switch is just a plain earth trigger, so as soon as its pressed closed it disconnects, triggering the timer on the BEM leaving the dome lights on, but instantly disconnecting the circuit to the map lights I've wired in using it as the secondary earth, hence turning them off. Therefore to get them on the timer, wouldn't I need to connect the 3rd wire currently running to the rear door trigger, to the same secondary earth the dome lights use instead?

when i did mine, this is how they turned out and worked as well...to get them to work as you want, seems to need more clarification and information......maybe the initial two wires to get them to unlock and dim with the main lights need to be spliced into the main light circuit, and using the door switch earthing point as the third wire on the lamps allows for the independent door opening and manual inside activation..
.....all in all,it is a bit confusing as to set up the circuit..it seems there are two types of set up available to use,and its a matter of finding the right wires to do the job...i am interested to get it to work how you want to it to do ,as ,i would like them to come on upon activating the key fob,as well as working independently when opening the doors and using them at night separately as reading lights

Slight mis communication here. my bad
When someone has them already, they are designed to come on with lock unlock or individually with either back door open, what I do is cross them over so when one door opens, they both come on
With what you are doing, if you want to get them to come on with unlock etc, then you need to pick up from the front and you have all the extra work to do, most dont bother as they feel the extra work is not worth it as they do come on wth door open
Door switches are ground
I ended up tapping into the secondary earth from the dome lights and running that back to the c pillers. I wanted it to work how the KH/KJ Verada's do, my old car only ever had them come on when I opened an individual back door, always found it annoying they didn't come on with the dome lights. Call me pedantic, I just like the whole interior lighting up at night when I open the car, not just the front half :P
All's well ends well ;)
