Hey guys, pretty sure ive got a problem with my oxygen sensor. Had some problems with car misfiring then check engine light coming on and im guessing its a dirty oxygen sensor. Is it worth buying a new one and where can i get one from? Or is there someway to clean them?

Should i also check out my spark plugs and leads to see if theres any damage from it?

Thanks Heaps

I hope this is helpful but REPCO appear to be clearing out NTK O2 sensors.

ELECTRICAL & BATTERIES, NTK, OZA116-M5, SENS-OXY 4 WIRE , $20.00, 1, view. ENGINE COMPONENTS
RAP NAMBOUR in QLD,RAP HERVEY BAY in QLD,RAP BEAUDESERT in QLD,RAP ROCKHAMPTON in QLD,RAP BEENLEIGH in QLD

This is not a direct fit but suits the Pajero. The direct fit is OZA116-M8, however it's the same sensor with the only difference being the length and the connector. If you are really handy and don't mind doing some research then you could get this and re crimp your old connector onto this one. Just make sure you leave enough wire to play with when you cut your old connector off and don't forget to transfer the rubber boot over first.
I just did this on my GALANT which uses the same replacement as the MAGNA. The biggest trick was working out the colour coding of the wires.

My OEM Denso unit had 2 x black wires = heater, White = Sensor Earth, Blue = Signal +
NTK had 2 x white wires = heater, Grey = Sensor Earth, Black = Signal +

I just rang a REPCO store which came up in a google search and they could tell me what stores close by still had these. I then had that store do a stock transfer to my nearest store for $5 extra and all up cost me $25.
The only hickup was the receiving store then tried to charge full retail of $149 but I set the young fella straight and just said no mate it's a clearance item at $20.

At this price even if it's not causing you grief, it's the cheapest O2 sensor replacement you'll ever see.

Did not help my problem but at 16yrs old the Original one was dead punching out a steady .25v with no fluctuation. New one voltages jumps all over the range and responds instantly to a throttle blip.

If you have a check engine light, it might be a good idea to try and get the code while it's there. Might just point you in the right direction rather than guessing or if you have a reasonable quality multimeter, measure your O2 sensor and see how it's doing.

Good Luck

Oxy sensor does NOT make the engine light come on nor will it cause a mis fire, you will need to get the codes read to determine your cause, could be many things including cam angle sensor, TPS etc etc

Even if you unplug the oxy sensor it will not cause the engine light to come on

how much fuel were you using before changing it? and is it that hard to change it to suit a magna? thannks

Well unfortunately I can't help you out about the fuel economy because this sad old galant is unreg and a long winded project at the moment.

As far as difficulty goes if you can

a. cut and strip wires neatly
b. use wire crimps
c. be patient and plan it out,
d. identify colours you should be fine. I work in an electronics field so I had easy access to quality tools which makes it so much easier especially wire strippers.
Usual precautions like power off and disconnect the sensor before you start cutting wires etc.

Think about your lengths before you just cut, give your self a margin for mistakes just in case.

I staggered the wire cuts at different lengths so all the crimps did not end up at the same length which would make it rather bulky and awkward in one spot. I put heat shrink tubing on each crimp and then over the loom for protection, neatness and security.

I've already given the wiring colour codes to match so maybe have a quick look at what your MAGNA has just in case Mitsubishi changed. My vehicle was a 1994 Galant V6.

Hope this helps you out. In the Newcastle area last week there was only one left after my purchase. I got lucky stumbling across the special.

Good luck with it.

thanks mate, my magna is using the same fuel on highway as it is around town, guessing the o2 sensor is on the way out. although it didnt show any fault codes today......

No, worries. The way i looked at it was it's the same scenario as getting an universal sensor and having to splice that onto the original connector except you don't get the hardware.
This way you do save some good dollars and not too painful in the hip pocket if it's not faulty . You'll have that warm and fuzzy feeling of knowing it's new so good for some years.
Like it's already been stated by MADMAGNA, I had no check lights, & I also disconnected the O2 sensor and still no check lights so I measured my output to confirm mine was stuffed.
I have a lean mixture issue but that's another story.

Listen to Mal, he knows what he's talking about!
Oxy sensor only helps when maintaining a steady speed by optimising the air/fuel ratio for best economy.
It will not contribute at all to any misfire issues or engine light appearances!!

Yep he is right, man start looking at something else like MAF sensor..

thanks for help guys, ill try the easy option like Andrei said and change over MAF sensor coz ive got a spare lying around and if that doesnt fix ill change over cam angle sensor and see how i go
