As you are all well aware the keys for the 380 are ridiculously priced here. Having only one key with an encoder is risky to say the least, so I have played guinea pig and gone and bought one from the US for a Galant. It looks identical (including the blank) so it will be interesting to see how it goes. I will still have to get it programed by Mr Mitsi but that is ok. Here is the ebay link if anyone else is interested.

I was lucky, I got 3 with mine. One was brand new as one had a cracked handle. My dealer programmed it free of charge on a warrenty repair.

Isnt there a way to re-program the key without going to the dealer? I have heard it on here somewhere....

Only the remote side of things. I have done that with other remote keys and listed a how to on here somewhere. It is a matter of putting a few wires across certain terminals in your OBD port and pressing a few buttons in sequence and abracadbra! they work. You have to make sure that you have ALL your remotes on hand when you do it. You cant however do the encoder side of things from what I understand. This must be done by Mr Mitsi.

Found the instructions and have copied them. These are the ones that I used.
1) First find the DLC plug (inside under driver side, right hand side, next to transmission wall). It’s a 16 pin connector with pins 1-8 on the wide side, 9-16 on the narrow side. Look closely and you can see the number 8, and barely make out the number 1.

2) Insert a paper clip into pin 1 and another into pin 4. Run two clip on wires up to where you can work comfortably so you can jumper 1 & 4 together in the next steps.

3) Insert your key into the ignition. Do not turn it. Just put it in.

4) Jumper 1&4. Within 10 seconds press the hazard button 6 times (that’s 3 on & 3 off). Your doors should lock and unlock to confirm registration mode.

5) Press and release the lock button of your 1st remote once.

6) Within 10 seconds of step 5 press and release the lock button of your remote TWICE.

7) The doors should lock and unlock to confirm registration.

8) If registering additional remotes follow steps 5 -7 again for up to a total of 4 remotes. But do them within 1 minute. NOTE: You must re-register your original remote as part of this since it wipes out all old registrations.

9) When done remove the jumper wire, paper clips, start the car, and with the money you saved go and fill up your fuel tank.

if this indeed does work..it should be moved or copied into the 380 encyclopedia

it does because I have done it myself and can vouch for it. Still no joy on the encoder though. Don't know if any locksmiths can do them yet either. As of a year ago they couldn't.

the encoder can only be programmed by the mitsi dealer as far as I know, and from what I understand it can only be done one time ( have to confirm this though). I am going to ring a locksmith today to see if they can do the encoder keys yet. The problem is that Mitsi wont release the the relevant information to enable anyone else to program their machines to do them. It is a bit like the Telstra exchange monopoly and ADSL2. You may be able to get ADSL2 at your exchange via telstra but if they don't release any ports to other providers then you will have no other choice but to run will Telstra if you want ADSL2 or wait for them to release ports to someone. Telstra like Mitsi hold the monopoly so can charge ridiculous amounts for their respective products.
