Hi I have a 1996 TE Magna, I have noticed that the raditor fan wont spin with the engine going but when I turn the aircon on, it starts spinning. I have a Gregorys Manual for the car, but it dosent say anything about if the fan dosent spin what to do. I was thinking that if the fan spins with the aircon on, the fan motor must be ok. I just need to know what I am looking for to fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your engine fan relay is cactus mate. Well, high chance that's the one. Change that with another relay and see how it goes. if not, the coolant temp sensor could be at fault too but more then likely it's the fan relay :)

Have had a run of these lately with cactus fans as well, have done 4 of them in the last couple months which to date has not been usual

Dude as mentioned in your other tread, if fan is spinning it is your sending unit most likely...

but the fan will only spin with the air con on, with the aircon not on, it wont spin at all, could this be the sending unit too? Also which one is the fan relay? I have looked the the relay cover and there appears to be three of them for the fan, labled G, H and K. Please help!

If the sending unit is completely gone then it wont detect that your coolant is overheating & thus wont command to switch the fan on, so that is why it wont work, once you turn on the AC it forces both fans to work regardless of what sending unit is showing.

so should i change the relay first to see if that fixes it? Also do you know which one it is in the relay box?

Hmmm dont know about relay, it could also be the problem (although the fan does work so it unlikely), its not that expensive so just change it, i gotta have a look to see which one it is.

thanks for the reply mate, i have noticed on the relax box that there are relays for the fan with the aircon symbol around them, I kinda feel that it would be the relay as the fan works with those ones. If you can let me know which one it is, that would be great.
