Ok, so before we all chime in and blast the 'Search' rhetoric, I have a different kind of question rather than "can it be done for under a fiver etc".
My KH Verada is getting a Tippy next weekend. I have all the parts coming, ECU, shifter, wiring for shifter.
However, my question is for the blokes/lasses who have done this conversion.
Why do I need the engine harness? The only difference as far as I can see, is the missing wires in the tippy that go from the ecu to the inhibitor switch. I see no reason why I cant just disconnect the L23 wires from the inhibitor switch and let the new ECU sort out the rest. I could be missing something though, so knowlege is power.
Next, I have it on good authority that the ECU will work with my existing BEM. The dealers tell me that the ECU does not do the security, the BEM does. Then it sends signal to the ECU. So if i change the ECU, the dealer tells me "the BEM and ECU will co-operate if changed". However, theory does not always play in practice, so has anyone actually tried paring a new ECU to a BEM raw, without recoding etc? what was the result?
Mitsu can Mut-II the BEM to make it all work if need be, but I do not want to have 2 VIN numbers for keys or change all of the locks or any of that rubbish with a replacement BEM from the ECU donor car. Plus I want to leep my Verada BEM as it runs the sunroof and the dimming lights and timers and etc.
Otherwise I have had a very good look at this, and mainly the wiring is only different to the shifter. The rest of the functions are done by the ECU.
Any help on this would make my conversion smoother. I have a plan to re-use the cluster I have by wiring trickery with the lights (High-Contrast cluster)

Your dealer is an idiot plain and simple.....
For starters, the ECU and BEM ARE matched, once you put in a new BEM for what ever reason, and I mean a BRAND NEW BEM, you have 3 chances to match it to the ECU then it locks. Once it has been sucessfully matched to the ECU it also locks and can never be matched to another. This was to increase the security and stop someone with a key and bem just plugging it all in and stealing your car.
Try it yourself, grab another BEM and plug it in, your car will not go even if you use the key from the car the BEM came from, trust me, I have tried many combo's
ALso, your existing key, once programmed to a particular BEM, can NOT be programmed to another BEM. Again I have a MUTII and have tried. I have spoken to people who used to work at Mits in SA in the factory and they have confirmed same. In the TE/F you can pop a new key into an existing immob but TH onwards no go.
Add to the above post, why would you spend hours patching wires when you can in about an hour have the complete engine harness changed over, is not a big job, no soldering needed and the only tricky part is around the ABS Module. just unbolt it and pull it back off the mounts, dont disc the brake lines, leaves just enough room to pull it through.
Also, yes, I did a tippy conversion about a week ago.
Now with the desire to keep the hi series BEM, you can use one from a KJ Verada then you get the ECU and BEM, this is what I did the other day, this gives you what you need, you then use your VIN to order 2 new keys for YOUR car and have them programmed to your new BEM and the system will never know the difference. There is no way to use your existing BEM with a new ECU unless you get the Tippy ECU unlocked
One other thing, make sure that the ECU you are getting is TH onwards and not a TF Sports one, if is a TJ Verada it will have the hi series BEM anyway

Cheers Mal for the reply.
I am sourcing the parts locally off a TH Sports.
I have no issue with the wiring side of things, but the knowlege of the computer integration is very helpful. Cheers.
So, to clarify, the MUT-II can unlock the TH Tippy ECU?
Then all of the things will function.
I have little faith in the local dealer. 7 handbrake assemblies and a loose set of 4 (one was missing) wheelnuts on a front wheel will attest to my confidence in this establishment. The info came from a Brisbane dealer. But even so, I was not a paying customer at the time, just on the phone so I didn't expect massive effort into my query.
As long as the ECU can be unlocked all my issues are resolved then. I will just make the dealer unlock the Tippy ECU.

The code needs to be pulled from the ECU and then the immob turned off. MUTII can not do this
ALso, in refrence to the BEM etc, if it was that easy dealers would do this all the time lol, I have many dealers buy ECU/BEM and Key set ups from me for good $$, some will get the ECU amd BEM on their own and then supply the customer new keys programmed in others will get the complete pack and change all locks over

Ok No worries. How do I unlock the ECU then? Is it an SKR thing. Oh and the reason for my train of thought, is my TE had its ECU replaced seperate to its locking system.
However as you say, they don't have a BEM so its like comparing wine and fruit drink.

Plus I want to leep my Verada BEM as it runs the sunroof and the dimming lights and timers and etc.
the only difference is just the light dimming in and out.. all your current functions are the same as the th... there is still a way you can keep the dimming though
as for the sunroof the th will have that feature too but to be honest its useless.. what i have done is pull the wire from the plug that comes down the from below the A pillar this normally goes to the front door switch and bcm... with it out means you can still use the sunroof with the door open you also have longer to use it... as it still gets its power from the power window relay it will switch off once either the timer goes off or you close the drivers door. it works the same as the power windows basicly, as i found it was a pain in the ass if i open the door then realise the roof is up then have to put the keys back in to close it even though i could still use the windows
