Someone commented on the fact that the trim on their car around the rear screen was deteriorating, and could it be replaced? Can't find the thread, hence this post.
The answer was, no, not easily.
The one on my TJ was discoloured and pitted. A simple fix for me was to paint over it with tyre black paint using a fine brush. Fills the pits and evens out the colour. Don't know how long it will last, but its an idea if it bothers you.

Good. I just had an old (very old) tin of tyre black sitting around and thought I would try it. lol But I will try that if this doesn't last.

Is the Mother's stuff in a squeezy foam-tipped applicator - a bit like for school shoes? TUFFFTR mentioned some product in that type of applicator was very good also.
On myTJ-era cars, the black glossy coating on the rubber seal is flaking off, not pitted so much as coating flaking away.
Another member recently mentioned a thin smear of black silastic over the seal surface as well.

Black silastic smear, yes, that was me, but that just rubbed right off as it is too soft. lol. Meh. The tyre black seems to be doing better, only time will tell.

Also - black shoe polish works too at bringing it back up.
Its probably not the best for the rubber seals themselves, but it brings them up nice and shiny / glossy / black.
Being shoe polish - it also repels water as well.
Get one with a sponge applicator - makes it heaps easier. :)

Just checked my tyre black effort, must have rained last night as some of it ran lol but its cleaned up now. Stuck well to the rubber though. Another coat soonish. I will keep the other options in mind though.

Armour-All will be less maintenance - have to let it soak though.

I love Mothers Naturally Black, but it does nothing for the rear window. Because the plastic coating has actually flaked off, there's no plastic to blacken :(
Tyre black is definitely an interesting idea. I was considering buying some modelling paint and just touching it up by hand. Any thoughts on that?
